Recreation[edit]

I've decided to recreate this page following some discussions at Dartmouth College's FAC.

I nominated this article for deletion on December 21, 2006: the consensus was to merge it into Dartmouth College. However, the content proved too long to be kept in its full form at that article, which is a shame because it is both well-written and well-cited.

There was only one "Delete" vote at the AfD in addition to my nomination; all the other recommendations were to Keep or Merge the content. In recreating this article, my feelings on its encyclopedic value have obviously changed, and I hereby rescind my nomination of it for deletion, if only after the fact.

Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion explains the exception to something being "recreation of deleted content" as follows:

This does not apply to content that has been moved to user space, undeleted via deletion review, or deleted via "proposed deletion", or to speedy deletions.

”

Since this content was moved to my and Smith120bh's user pages and never deleted, I believe in good faith that its replacement here does not constitute the recreation of deleted material. I realize, too, that this a grey area, so if anyone has concerns about this, please feel free to discuss them with me. Kane5187 16:22, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Successful good article nomination[edit]

I am glad to report that this article nomination for good article status has been promoted. This is how the article, as of October 21, 2007, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: Reads well, clear, concise wording.

2. Factually accurate?: 8 cites to WP:RS sources.

3. Broad in coverage?: Though the article is a bit short, I'm not going to not pass it as a GA simply for that reason, with all of its other Good qualities. However, if you do find other sources, please don't hesitate to expand it. Also, please merge small paragraphs of 2 sentences or less in the History and revisions section.

4. Neutral point of view?: Phrased in neutral wording throughout.

5. Article stability? Article has only been up in present format for little over a month. No edit wars, or talk page incivility during that time.

6. Images?: Three, one with a detailed fair use rationale, and two from Wikimedia Commons. Nice.

Photos[edit]

Thanks for adding the excellent photos, Dylan. One can also spy versions of the seal in Alumni Hall, the Treasure Room, and on the front of Baker Tower.

Here is a mystery that someone should track down the answer to: where is Dartmouth storing the large stained glass seal that used to fill the main skylight over the stairs in Parkhurst Hall? It was removed in a renovation a few years ago and has not been put back.
