Malone's On Main[edit]

This place sounds great, but it is most definitely an ad for the place, and not an appropriate listing under the, "cuisine" section of this article. It goes so far as to add a phone number and a website to the place. It needs to be edited down.

The historical aspects of the restaurant are interesting and can be formulated to sound more like an encyclopedia entry, but much of the rest of it should be removed, in my opinion.

F*Bombs[edit]

These guys really shouldn't be mentioned in the article. I don't think most people in Sedalia even know who they are--Are they even playing together anymore? Pretty obviously added by one of the band members.

TV Show Emergency[edit]

At 18:35, on 10 February 2008, a user from 216.74.215.136 made the following contribution to the "Movies" section:

In 1975, on the hit T.V show Emergency, fire fighter/paramedic Johnny Gage claims to have found a gear off a(n) abandon herse in Sedalia.

  • I have been able to identify the show as Emergency! (with a "!").
  • I have been able to identify the character as John Roderick "Johnny" Gage.
  • I have been unable to determine whether the typo "herse" really should have been "horse" or "hearse" -- and, as a consequence, the term "gear" remains ambiguously equivocal.
  • Also "a gear off" makes it even more ambiguous: does it mean "the gear of an abandoned horse", or "a gear from an abandoned hearse"?
  • A check at [1], and working through all of the episode summaries (i.e., not just those for 1975), fails to reveal any mention of "gear" or "hearse" or "Sedalia", and none of the mentions of "horse" make any sense in relation to the description given.
  • I have removed the contribution from the user at 216.74.215.136 pending clarification of this matter.
  • Also, once clarified, and the series, episode, and year have been correctly identified, it is obvious that the new corrected contribution should appear in the "TV" section, not the "Movies" section. 149.171.241.63 (talk) 21:19, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it is not clear from 216.74.215.136's contribution which "Sedalia" the TV show referred to. It may not have been Sedalia, Missouri, but could have been Sedalia, Kentucky, Sedalia, Virginia, Sedalia, West Virginia, Sedalia, North Carolina, Sedalia, South Carolina Sedalia, Indiana, or Sedalia, Ohio. Therefore the location of the "Sedalia" mentioned also needs to be confirmed as "Sedalia, Missouri". 149.171.241.1 (talk) 23:57, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]


Mayor[edit]

The name of the mayor has undergone some recent vandalism, which has now been repaired. I have edited to reflect that councilwoman Elaine Horn is serving as Mayor Pro-Tem of Sedalia, following the death of Mayor Bob Wasson on April 24, 2009 [2]. On May 14, the city council is scheduled to take up the issue of who will be serving the remainder of Wasson's term, and the new mayor will take office on May 18. Any edits made to the mayor's name prior to May 18 should be viewed with skepticism unless a reliable source is cited to explain the premature change. --Mechla (talk) 23:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Historical population[edit]

I grew up in Sedalia and there was no way that the population of Sedalia in 1960 was 28-30,000. Census figures are available, but the population of Sedalia between 1960 and 1980 stayed around 20,000. There were some housing developments outside of Sedalia that could add a few people, but not 8-10,000. The 2000 census had a population for Sedalia of 20,339. Apple butter[edit]

I remember visiting Sedalia as a child. I associate the place with apple butter. Is it known for apple butter? Is there perhaps an apple butter festival? Or is my memory wrong?Bill (talk) 02:18, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Salvation Army[edit]

This story appears to be apocryphal. The citation is listed as "Salvation Army Historical Society, Chicago, IL," an institution that doesn't seem to exist in that location.

There are a number of sites citing Wikipedia as the source for this information, but it doesn't appear elsewhere.

This should link to the revision where the changes were made. (I'm not very good at this.) They were made all at once to add what really seems to be an urban legend not found elsewhere.
