bias[edit]

This article seems to have quite a bit of bias from different sides and almost no real sources definitely needs editing — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:4040:550B:6400:F50C:3528:5034:A0AA (talk) 20:23, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Animal Fat[edit]

"and played a prominent role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 after it was alleged that the new rifles being issued to them used animal fat to grease the casing." - What's the significance of this? Something religious? Genelikesanime (talk) 00:35, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Supposedly it was a mixture of cow fat (and so sacreligious to Hindus) and pig fat (and so unlean to Muslims). 62.172.108.23 (talk) 13:23, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The sepoys found this offensive because their religion forbade them from eating animals such as these. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.246.13.207 (talk) 19:19, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Degeneratory use[edit]

"Sepoy" is being used nowadays in a degeneratory way by some Indian nationalists. I've added it wtice, but was also reverted twice; the second time because ""Sepoy" is a fairly neutral historic term for a private soldier in modern India - rather like "GI" or "Tommy". Sorry but Twitter is not a particularly authoritative source." The secons argument is fair, but the first is incomplete, since the term is being used in a degeneratory way by some. rifle[edit]

Sepoy is a "military unit" traditionally armed with a "Rifle"! 137.59.221.36 (talk) 10:05, 23 December 2021 (UTC)\\10:05, 23 December 2021 (UTC)\\~~ 137.59.221.36 (talk) 10:05, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

emphasis on contemporary[edit]

article places little interest upon the well decorated and well presemted contemporary Sepoy, and their potential. 137.59.221.36 (talk) 10:11, 23 December 2021 (UTC)\\\137.59.221.36 (talk) 10:11, 23 December 2021 (UTC)\\\~ 137.59.221.36 (talk) 10:11, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
