Pay grade[edit]

E-9 or O-9? When the billet is equal to a Lt.General it would be O-9. --95.222.191.0 (talk) 08:48, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sergeant Major of the Army is an noncommissioned rank and position of office with the paygrade of E-9. Only one enlisted man holds this rank and position. The importance of this singular position within the enlisted ranks of the Army, is equivalent to that of the importance of a lieutenant general may hold. SMA insignia[edit]

The SMA insignia for 1994 - 2015 looks identical to the one following it -- 2015 to present. Is there a difference I'm missing??

@GeeBee60: With the uniform change from the old green Class "A" uniform to the blue ASU for everyday wear, the green backing became obsolete in 2015. EricSerge (talk) 15:53, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Protocol[edit]

What protocol places the SMA higher than all LTGs? Yes, he works for the CSA but a 2LT outranks him....period. Could a 2LT tell the SMA what to do, of course not. Not because of protocol, but because a 2LT would never be put in a position to do so. My source.....23 years in the Army! 161.97.200.229 (talk) 16:49, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
