It has been photographed and caught in the Mediterranean sea[edit]

This fish has been determined to be widespread in the Mediterranean. It is even found in the Eastern Mediterranean, where it has become locally numerous. It has also been photographed in Spanish waters. It was previously thought that they were Abudefduf vaigiensis from the Red Sea. New study (2015) which shows that the fish are Abudefduf saxatilis, via genetics: http://www.aquaticinvasions.net/2015/AI_2015_Tsadok_etal.pdf Older (2013) study, which shows pictures of a Sergeant Major in Tarragona, Spain. At this time it was still thought that the other Abudefduf found in the Mediterranean was the Red Sea species, but they are actually also Abudefduf Saxatilis rather than Abudefduf vaigiensis. http://www.reabic.net/journals/mbi/2013/2/MBI_2013_2_Azzurro_etal.pdf 2.104.41.248 (talk) 00:31, 31 August 2017 (UTC) 2.104.41.248 (talk) 00:32, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
