Question about Male Tarantulas with Tibial Hooks[edit]

Would male tarantulas with tibial Hooks count as sexual coercion? This is because the male uses them to hold the females fangs so it cant attack and resist.

I am asking first because it has not been added. Notsorrysorry (talk) 01:53, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I think this would count if you provide a reference to a reliable source regarding the behavior. 108.18.207.147 (talk) 16:21, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article on, e.g. Grammostola pulchripes contains the claim about tibial hooks, also unsourced. This LiveScience article does mention them, but not by name: https://www.livescience.com/54283-animal-sex-tarantulas.html. The US National Park Service agrees here: https://www.nps.gov/articles/tarantula.htm. Finally, there's a Wikimedia Commons photo of a tarantula with the tibial hook identified: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tarantula_tibal_hooks.JPG IAmNitpicking (talk) 01:23, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
