So was he, in fact, executed?[edit]

So was the defendant, in fact, executed? The article seems not to make this clear. I think the article is incomplete without answering that question. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a legal textbook. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 06:36, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The last information known is that the case was sent back for resentencing, maybe even a new trial. I'll look up if what the South Carolina Supreme Court (where the case was remanded to) did once the SCOTUS decision came out. -- Lord Roem (talk) 06:40, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In 2002, the South Carolina Supreme Court ordered a trial court to proceed with a new sentencing phase. Out of a search of the SC records, I can't find any third appeal of a death sentence on Shafer. I believe that if he was sentenced again to death, he certainly has not been executed yet. -- Lord Roem (talk) 06:45, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
