Derivation[edit]

Please explain, with references, whether the name is from شهيد "martyr" or from شاهد‎‎ "witness". If from شاهد‎‎ it may or may not be theophoric (reference?). If from شهيد I don't see how it can be theophoric. I realise the two words are from the same root and closely related, but vowel length is distinctive in this case. --dab (𒁳) 13:06, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
