Man or woman? Morning or Night?[edit]

Shachar is here referred to as a lady. In the article on Shachar, he is a man. Unless Shachar was a hermaphrodite, she/he cannot have been both lady and man. Which was she/he? Historygypsy (talk) 19:11, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The dictionary of deities & demons referred to here might well claim that Venus is the "Evening Star", but in fact it is the "Morning Star".

Finally, the Hebrew consonants Y M could be interpreted as the Hebrew Yom (day), but also as "Yam", who was the Canaanite Sea God. [or URL].

Perhaps this confusion is historical, since Shachar is a common name in Israel for both men and women. I know one of each. Zero^talk 00:10, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In the Quran: fact?[edit]

An anonymous editor who has contributed nothing else to enWiki has dumped into this article a faulty, highly questionable statement (here and in the following edit). He claims that

The name "Shalim" also exists as a variant of the Arabic word "salim", which appears in the Qur'an. It means "safe, sound and secure".

and offers as a source a page on academyofislam.com where there isn't a single mention of "Shalim". I have removed the whole thing. If he was indeed unto something, somebody else will have to pick it up and make the case for it here. Cheers, Arminden (talk) 16:33, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unconnected "see also" items[edit]

Gtrmp has added as "See also" items two deities with this 2006 edit, probably before the {{Portal|Mythology|Asia}} was created. I can see no direct connection between them and Shalim. What was probably a useful addition 15 years ago, has in my opinion lost its usefulness once we got the Portal|Mythology|Asia, where the two deities are listed among many others. Here they are:

Almaqah, the Moon God of the kingdoms of Saba' (in today's Yemen), Dʿmt and Aksum (in today's Eritrea and Ethiopia)
Wadd, pre-Islamic Arabian god, the national god of the Minaeans of South Arabia.

There are plenty of other moon gods and telluric deities in the Ancient Near East, I don't see how these two in particular can inform about Canaanite Shalim. Arminden (talk) 16:57, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
