Seperation[edit]

It is better to seperate the prize into its seven different fields and prepare the list for each. Otherwise the list is very long.Dr. Rajasekhar A. 07:29, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Not the most prestigious anymore[edit]

The award has been quite superseded by the India Science Award in terms of monetary value and recognition. Statement need to be rephrased. Chhandama (talk) 11:56, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Given we do not have the complete list of laureates of India Science Award and its less signifiacant history it will be difficult to assign it as "the most prestigious" Though I am not sure of it. Solomon7968 (talk) 21:52, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, prudence may be safe, but the reason for the bold claim is that not only the prize money is more in ISA (in reality the maximum amount a recipient collect for Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar is actually Rs. 5 lakhs, as the award is split into many discipline, for a fresh news see this which shows the devaluation of the prize as each discipline can have more than one recipients), but also that it is directly selected by the central ministry, while Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar is selected by CSIR, which is supported by the ministry, therefore, the hierarchical superiority of ISA. Further, ISA is age-limitless and not given every year because of its stringent requirement of outstanding achievement, whereas Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar is strictly for below 45 years of age and given generously to ~10 individuals. I think I make my case.Chhandama (talk) 11:14, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maximum Shanti Swarup winners infact do not have wiki articles and it is difficult to write about them because of only 2 or 3 sources. So infact which award is more significant does not matters but we should try to improve coverage of Shanti Swarup winners. I noted only the Shanti Swarup winners in mathematics has relatively good coverage (I made 4 bio) but this is really low compared to the designation of highest award of a Country like India. Point taken. Indian scientists are adorned with so many awards, honours, titles but not recognised internationally. Our local science is, I fear, entirely based on our vague credentials, not our outputs. By the away, the point I criticise is the statement that "(SSB Prize) is the highest award for science in India", which it certainly is not. Chhandama (talk) 11:35, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Want to share an interesting observation but since it is not associated directly with the page will talk to your talk page. Solomon7968 (talk) 11:57, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
