Untitled[edit]

I moved this article from Cossack sabre to Shashka. Please don't use cut-'n'-paste page moves, because that loses the edit history, which is important for satisfying Wikipedia's GFDL licensing of contributions. —Michael Z. 2005-09-2 18:26 Z

The introductory article first says it is a guardless (without hilt) sword, then says the hilt was often decorated. The first sentence also says it is single-edged, then later in the same paragraph says it was double edged. The guard is a part of the hilt. Ergo, a sword can be guardless and still have a hilt. The way it is written now does not lead to that conclusion IMO. Observer31 (talk) 21:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shashka or Sashka is originaly an Adyghe word, "Sashkoa" means long knife, "Sa" means knife "Shkoa" means big, long, great. Andynapso (talk) 10:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kind of saber? Shashka users always insist that shashka is not a saber but a sword. They usually point out that the techniques for using a shashka are quite different from those with sabers. Shashka is more straightforward, shashka fencing is more like iai-do: it is about quickly drawing the weapon and delivering a blow. 213.87.134.254 (talk) 19:30, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Revised article[edit]

I have revised the article, removing a lot of non-encyclopaedic - frankly, 'fan-boy' - content and introduced a good deal of directly cited, more impartial and technical content.
