Date of finding of guilt[edit]

I didn't provide the specific date for the finding of guilt because the sources don't agree. CPJ has April 27, RWB has April 30. Perhaps the court's ruling happened separately from the sentencing, but I wasn't sure how to resolve the discrepancy. --Michael Snow 17:43, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gender[edit]

Why does this newspaper have Shi Tao as a woman? Seems like a strange mistake to make... and Chinese pronouns are gender neutral, so other sources might have it wrong. Is Shi Tao a woman? Or is it just that someone in that newsroom said "Shi" and someone else heard "she"? --grant 14:11, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shi Tao is actually a man. Due to the quite different pronunciations of his surname/family name (=xing 姓) Shi and English "she" it cannot have been an auditory mistake. (BTW, for the same reason of misunderstanding, in his poem "June" the word lianren 戀人 (lover, sweetheart) was translated partly in the male form.) ----

Length of imprisonment[edit]

How come it says he was imprisoned for 10 years when it appears he is still imprisoned and has been for a little over two years? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.149.12.20 (talkcontribs)

It's a matter of style. "He was imprisoned" doesn't necessarily mean the sentence is now over. I added the year of sentencing to the sentence to clarify it. Nardman1 21:47, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Surname[edit]

Which is his surname? Badagnani 22:46, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Although it could be his pen name, he is only known as 師濤, so that would make his surname 師. Pojanji 01:37, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PEN Poem Relay[edit]

I added links to the current Poem Relay "Carrying the Torch for Freedom of Expression in China" by the international PEN clubs on occasion of the Olympic Games in Peking 北京 and Shi Tao's 師濤 poem 六月 (June), which, BTW, is mentioned in other Wikis ;-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wayasu (talkcontribs) 10:06, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

inconsistent with Yahoo article ...[edit]

which says that the Chinese explicitly stated that he was wanted in regards to "state secrets"
