Extensive Vandalism[edit]

This page has been vandalized quite frequently by I.P. address 67.87.55.236 If you look at the history, click on this IP and you'll see it only edits articles related to the Shiny Toy Guns, and the edits are always vandalism. This page will probably need to be IP protected. --Tyrion1500

Weird Questions[edit]

Why is Shiny Toy Guns in Wikipedia? and why did Gregorri Chad Petree from the band write his bands own Wiki?

1) They're a noteworthy band. 2) I presume you mean me? I'm not Chad from the band, my name is Gregor Morrill and I'm from Indianapolis. I've done a lot of editing on their entry because I'm a fan of theirs and have booked them previously in Indianapolis. Bio[edit]

I removed this paragraph from the bio:

Originally from Shawnee, Oklahoma, the band gained notoriety and success after genre hopping several "next big thing" styles til they fit into the electro clash genre, changing the name and look.
They have even gone so far to work it with "a faux british accent" to quote the Oklahoma Gazzette and even boast they are from L.A. California - bringing much criticism from the local Oklahoma fan base.

It's plagiarized wholesale from here, for one thing, and for another thing I don't even believe it's accurate. It's certainly not NPOV. Jeremy Dawson and Chad have both been involved in various music projects over the years (sometimes together), in various genres, but that's different than saying Shiny Toy Guns genre-hopped. No, it is not plagiarized wholesale, they took it from me. I wrote it first, here, on this page. they took it from here and published it, which is quite cool.

I took this line out: "It has been speculated that 'Shiny Toy Guns' album 'We Are Pilots' is not eligible for a GRAMMY nomination since the album had three previous releases prior to the October 17, 2006 Universal Records release ('We Are Pilots' (v3) and had been released by the band on the Internet for digital download sale and full online streaming prior to October 1, 2006) GRAMMY nominations for the 50th GRAMMY awards are for albums released from October 1, 2006 to September 30, 2007." This is referring to a spam/fake letter from a fake attorney to a Grammy administrator. Although a Shiny Toy Gun stalker keeps posting this fake letter as a comment on news feeds and blogs, no reliable source has published anything about the Grammys reconsidering the nomination. --Tyrion1500

Popular Culture List[edit]

You're right, a one-off appearance in a random episode of a TV show doesn't really seem notable enough to include. Appearances in popular culture should perhaps be mainly about the band or band members themselves, maybe only including a song if it's the actual main theme tune to a TV show or video game, this sort of info would probably be important enough to be written as a paragraph, rather than a crufty list. I've been trying to clean up the list and actually move it to the album page We Are Pilots (v3) as appropriate, but apparently people just keep adding more every time they hear the band on a TV show. Popular Culture List Removal[edit]

I'm taking the bold initiative to get rid of this section entirely. Below are summaries for some of the changes, but ultimately I do not believe there should be a list of every appearance on the artist main page. Please discuss. I will revert re-additions of this section unless there is some explanation/discussion about it here.

Unsourced[edit]

Quite simply, these are unsourced. When sourced, they should appear on the We Are Pilots (v3) page instead of here.

  • November 2005: "Chemistry of a Car Crash" is featured on an episode of Guiding Light.
  • Unknown Month 2006: "Don't Cry Out" is used in the snowboard film "In Transit" by Alterna Productions.
  • March 2007: "Turn to Real Life" is used on an episode of Ugly Betty.
  • October 2007: "You Are the One" featured on Private Practice
  • October 2007: "Le Disko" featured on Dirty Sexy Money
  • November 2007: An instrumental version of "Don't Cry Out" used on Waterloo Road.

Not notable[edit]

This Alternavox article is orphaned at the moment and likely will be removed due to not being notable. The song starting off a radio show isn't notable and will only lead to a long list of useless trivia if it's accepted. Also it's unsourced.

  • September 2007: "Le Disko" was the song that launched Alternavox NORTH in Toronto.

  • October 2001: The lyrics from the chorus of "You are the One" are used in a track called "Neo (The One)", which features on the Rise FM radio station in the video game Grand Theft Auto III. The track was released by Dawson and Petree under their previous alias Slyder.

Controversy section / Introduction[edit]

I re-added the controversy section because I thought it was a relatively important thing to address. Maybe there shouldn't be a "controversy" section, but it could certainly be included in the entry somewhere, not just removed. Or perhaps there's a good explanation for its removal.

I simplified the introductory paragraph again. The wording seemed subjective (and made it sound like their songs are only popular on Myspace) and could easily go on forever in a list as fans add their new favorite songs to the list. Songs that achieve a certain level of popularity can easily be referred to in the article, I'm not suggesting it not be included; I just don't think it's necessary in the introductory line. Carah Faye[edit]

Okay, I noticed that someone from synthesizers and bass from Carah Faye's role in the members list. I came on here to discuss it before editing but I noticed that the person who made the change was not logged in so I have no problem changing it back. According to the CD booklet, Carah Faye only does vocals. However, I've been to one of their live concerts and she played bass and snnthesizer on some songs. I will try to find a wikipedia legit source on it, if its possible to even find one. But I know first hand from watching their show that Carah Faye does play these instruments in their shows.Doolkid (talk) 08:18, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a pretty minor change, doesn't need a reference per se. I'm pretty sure she only plays bass and synthesizer live, not on recordings, but on a band page it's not specific to "plays live / plays on recordings", so I'm fine with keeping it listed this way. – gRegor (talk • contribs) 00:27, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone have any SOURCED information about why she's no longer in the band? What's in the article is very vague, just that she's not in the band anymore. There's no mention of if she quit or was asked to leave, any current projects of hers, etc. Perhaps there's nothing known but I'd like to see more in the article if anyone can offer. Enough with the trivia[edit]

The band's song being used on My Super Sweet 16 is trivia.

"You Are the One" appearing in multiple video games is trivia (and covered on the We Are Pilots (v3) entry already). Arguably, the reference to the roots being in Slyder's "Neo" is somewhat trivial. It's covered in that entry already, but I left it here after trimming it down because I'm not sure.

Listing a new song they've been playing live lately is also trivia.

I'm not sure if their appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba is trivia or not. It's not a huge media appearance, and I fear leaving it there will encourage people listing more trivia items like the ones I listed above.

I'd always heard they were from Stillwater, Oklahoma and played pool together on the strip just south of the college campus there. Clarification of date of formation[edit]

Terrible article[edit]

As much as I like the Shiny Toy Guns, this is a terrible article; it's utterly un-encyclopedic, full of fan-drivel, unnecessary quotes from interviews, and silly teenspeak (the album will "drop" in 2010 ???).
