Dave, I hope you don't mind me fooling with this. I think you've well. I changed the internal links to simple Internal links and changed the external links in the narrative portion to references. The user can still hyperlink to them at the bottom of the page, although not quite as easily. But all wikipedia articles ought to have some external references anyway. The article also needs to be "linked to" from other wikipedia articles. Otherwise it is an Orphan article. Click on What links here on the left of the page to check that. I think we could add references (links to here) in Filk music, Minicon, MarsCon, or KFAI, but you would know better than I, what would be appropriate. Appraiser 05:44, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead Appraiser; I still don't understand much about linking[edit]

I don't really understand how the linking works. When I make a link (using the icon bar) the text has a little symbol to the right, while yours don't. I'd prefer that they didn't. When I first started, I made footnotes (because it was easiest). Some of the footnotes are redundant (eg Minicon is referenced several times in the same place.)

Re orphan: Eventually This entry should link to Minicon (which should have a mention of the Shockwave Live Radio Shows) and the entries of the major Shockwave Riders (Kara Dalkey, Emma Bull, etc.) I don't know if I merit my own Wiki entry (maybe a stub) and so simply linked to my site. And did the same for Brian and Jerry. All three of us have longstanding and deep web sites. Indeed, one of the reasons I started from scratch is that I didn't want to duplicate the Shockwave FAQ from 1999.

A more detailed entry would include a listing of some of the more notable programs, more detail about the Live Stage Shows, a longer listing of guests, and even more about the weird humor. That will be added as time goes on.

At 28 years and counting, Shockwave is one of the longest running radio programs with the same host in the history of the medium. Eventually, KFAI should have its own entry, and several programs should link to it. Our Somali program is very popular... in Africa...

Quick correction to correction: I tried to fix it, but I can't fix the update notes. Ruth Anderson and Mike MacKinnon are from Winnipeg (not Toronto). Ruth is part of the Bhigg House.

A couple of points[edit]

I added a reference in the KFAI article to this one. When citing a reference that is a non-wikipedia url, I use this format:

[1]

leaving out fields that aren't applicable or aren't known. (You'll need to edit this page to see how it is created.) When linking to another wikipedia article, simply bracket the name with double []. Use internal links for anything the reader might want additional information about, such as podcast. Working links should be in one color; broken links another color. If you're pretty sure that an article exists, but it's broken, it's probably due to spelling, abbreviation, or capitalization, which you should try to resolve. e.g. John Mike Ford vs. John M. Ford. When referencing the title of the subject article or a section within it, just make that item bold. After writing on the discussion page, insert four ~. That will sign your name and date like this: Appraiser 15:27, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean if I type the name of a link in single brackets, the way it's spelled in Wiki, it will make an internal link? Hmm... I often don't use the exact spelling. Ford is a good example: His name is John Milo Ford; Mike was his uncle (or something like that) and became a nickname. Professionally, he went by John M. Ford but was universally known as Mike Ford.

How do I make the links (as you did) to unmade Wiki entries?

I didn't sign things because my name is in the history, but from now on I'll try it: David E Romm 17:56, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

more playing around[edit]

One correction - internal links need double brackets. The unmade wiki links are the same way - the different color alerts readers that an article should be created (or found if it's an alternate spelling). I created a user page for you, User:Baron Dave, to complete the link. These can be made fancy, or just leave it simple - as you wish. You can look at mine at User:Appraiser for example. I'd also suggest joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Minnesota. We're planning to have face-to-face meeting later in October, 2006.
