Questionable notability of Raines/NYT Quote?[edit]

This is one of the only articles on a city/town/village I've ever seen beginning with a statement about the politics of its residents. It is sourced, and may be accurate, but is this particular Raines/NYT quote an appropriate way to introduce an article about a physical place? What is notable about the politics of Shorewood residents? Looking at articles such as Oakland, California, where the politics of residents are notable and have had an externally substantiated historical impact, the first reference to politics is three paragraphs down. I'm not suggesting removing the quote, but perhaps moving it to another part of the article. With a sourced election history, it may justify a subsection under demographics... Especially given that a former Supreme Court Justice (Renquist) and a current Congressional Representative are listed (and sourced) as residents. --SfRattan (talk) 03:32, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The quotation also seems to be taken out of context. The NYT source is about Shorewood residents' declining support for desegregation busing in the lat 1970s, which contrasted with the villages liberal reputation at the time. At best, this source could be integrated into the history section, but it seems to me that this quote was cherry-picked in a way that isn't at all objective and elides the nuance of what the source actually is saying. Per WP:BOLD, I am going to delete the quote for now. CoatGuy (talk) 19:16, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
