Form of address?[edit]

As a Tongan Noble Lord, he is "Lord Tu'ivakano", and as a PM he should have a "The Honourable" (the previous PM had a "The Hon." style).

So does anyone know - is he "The Honourable Lord Tu'ivakano", or is he "The Honourable Siale'ataonga Tu'ivakano"? Or any combination of the above terms? (And should we throw a "Noble" in there as well? Because I keep seeing him referred to as "Noble Lord Tu'ivakano" in news articles) Dracunculus (talk) 18:05, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once a Tongan gets a noble title, he will be named thus and his baptismal name is no longer used. So he is just Tuʻivakanō, no more no less, and no one calls him anymore Sialeʻataonga (except between parentheses to distinguish from earlier holders of the title). To be more formal one can add ʻeiki before the title, but to have this word, meaning lord in English prefixed is an habit which suddenly sprang up in Tonga just a couple of years ago, before that it was not done, or the noble was used. So noble lord X is going overboard, but apparently going to stay with us for some time to come. Lastly all nobles in Tonga are honourable, so you can go more overboard by prefixing that as well. Finally wives of nobles do not have any status. Naming them lady X is also suddenly a new invention. --Tauʻolunga (talk) 06:36, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing: someone misspelled his name, and since that time it is copied and copied. The normal Tongan name, being his proper name is Sialeʻataongo (But just in case he is an exception, let us wait for an authorative biography appearing somewhere before correcting) --Tauʻolunga (talk) 06:51, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ban on Chinese stores[edit]

I'm not sure this is relevent enough to go into the article itself, so I'm putting it here. Reportedly, in 2000, Tuʻivakano banned all Chinese stores in Nukunuku, in response to complaints of other shopowners over the competition.
