Deletion discussion[edit]

Take it to AFD, the article is only two sentences but clearly explains the gist of the topic. The development of sidelights could be fleshed out making a fuller article. Take it to AFD. --IvoShandor (talk) 07:27, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It should not have its own article it should be a sub section of window. You still haven't explained that it should have its own article.--Fire 55 (talk) 07:45, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To add on why is a that flanks the door, so important that it needs a separate article from window. Is it culturally relevant or what. This is what the article need that you haven't provided.--Fire 55 (talk) 08:05, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently not, but there are plenty of sources out there to flesh out this article, which you could have done instead of trying to delete it. I don't care if it ends up merged but there are plenty of individual window articles around here. This isn't hurting anything, and will be expanded, unlike thousands of other one and two line articles around WP.--IvoShandor (talk) 08:32, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Tangent - this isn't the obvious use of the term in the UK - If you mention a 'sidelight' over here people will assume you are talking about the smaller ancillary lights mounted on a vehicle that are used in twilight/low light conditions or at night in well lit built up areas when headlights are not required. Might be worth disambiguating, as I recall the vehicular use employed in the US in the 60s, so it's not just a UK-ism. As for its significance, it's a fundamental element of architectural vocabulary, both language-wise and form-wise. Looks like I need to do one on Borrowed light too. Agree here, disambig would be worth it if there are any other uses for the term. I think the architectural use is the predominant one.--IvoShandor (talk) 03:54, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The term also has a photographic use.--IvoShandor (talk) 04:33, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
