EST obsolete[edit]

Since science and maths is already in english EST becomes 'obsolete'(im not sure how to put it) for those taking SPM in 2008 because it is not taught in classes though it can be taken as an extra subject for those trying to get that extra A1 though i'm not sure how it would fare due to the fact of the 12 subjects limitationAsarhapi 16:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Est is still taught to those taking SPM this year but not for those taking it next year i.e Form 4.It can still be taken though optionallyAsarhapi 11:29, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Wrong, it still remains a compulsory subject for all science stream student.

You are totally wrong, EST is still tought in classes and there's even an EST textbook, EST is not obsulute subject

As long as a subject is still offered as an examination paper, it ought to be retained in the list. The obsolescence of a subject would only occur if it was dropped from the examination. - Bob K | Talk 15:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok EST is now an elective because some schools take Chinese and now they have Pendidikan SIvil dan Kewarganegaraan next year.(Mianghuei (talk) 09:07, 4 December 2008 (UTC))[reply]

SPM Open Certification System[edit]

I think this article should incorporate some information about the SPM Open Certification system as well. However, I am not that well informed about this since I last took the exam in 1991. Can any younger editors contribute? - Bob K | Talk 15:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Err... I'm a SPM student this year, but what is the open cert system? (Mianghuei (talk) 09:07, 4 December 2008 (UTC))[reply]
I finally found a good write up on the open certification system at Study Malaysia. Its basically similar to the UK's GCSE where you have the option of taking individual papers instead of a group of papers. Using the UK as a model, it is particularly useful for folks who may need an additional GCSE or two to qualify for entry into some further education or higher education courses or for workplace assessment during performance reviews (usually for pay raise or qualification for other benefits). In Malaysia's context, some possible models could be a working adult who had done badly for SPM in his youth or dropped out from school wanting to take a diploma course to further his/her skills. The minimum entry requirements for a Level 4 diploma in Malaysia would be 3 SPM credits. The working adult then has the option to take up just 1 or 2 SPM papers to make up for any deficit. The main difference is perhaps the requirement to take all the core papers if one is taking the SPM for the first time or if one failed BM in their last sitting. - Bob K | Talk 10:23, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
