Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because the subject had an obituary published in the New York Times. Further, the subject was notable as a member of the Quaker faith who served during the Civil War. This service to country, and going against the norms of his religious community, make the subject unique. — IDKremer (talk) 19:53, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I removed the speedy tag. Notability may be debatable, but at least a claim is made and sources are present, so they can take to AFD if they feel that strongly about it. Regardless, it doesn't qualify for speedy delete. Dennis Brown (talk) 20:24, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
