Untitled[edit]

A trio of SingStar volumes will be released in the USA on October 28. They are Pop Vol. 2, Metal, and Legends. Pop Vol. 2 was supposed to have been released with the PS3 version, but the date has been bumped up to October. Good news for all the SingStar fans out there. Ryan Hamlyn recently did an interview with IGN here: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/849/849113p1.html And he announced the month SingStar PS3 will come out: May 2008. He also said the official tracklist for the Singstar 90s US (which is different than the UK version), and announced that PS2 will recieve numerous US releases this year, including SingStar Pop Volume 2. There are two Swedish Singstar games, one called only Svenska Hits and one called Svenska Hits Schlager... When I tried to edit this to the page i broke the table, so someone please go ahead and add that.

In the United States, Singstar '90s is to be released on March 18 2008. If you do not believe me, it is listed on amazon.com and gamestop.com as well. Proposal for major change[edit]

I recommed changing the use of "competitive karaoke game" to "competitive music video game". The developers have never used the word "karaoke" to describe the game. I propose a major edit to the entire collection SingStar-related articles. This would include:

  • Moving the SingStar (series) article to SingStar. Once the PS3 version is released, there will be two games by the name SingStar. Sending users to either of these articles may lead to confusion. Sending them to the series page would be best.
  • Create a page called List of SingStar games, which will be the replacement for the above articles. The article would list every game chronologically, and include an infobox on the right (with the standard developer, publisher, release date, ratings, platform information), and include the track lists on the left. I have made a draft of my proposed layout. My draft includes the use of collapsible tracklists to save room.
  • Incorporate any remaining information from the PS2 version articles (gameplay, reception, awards, criticisms) into the Singstar (series) article. I have already created a Reception section in the series article where some of this information can be put.

Here's the reason why we should do this:

  • The PS2 SingStar articles aren't really able to be expanded. Almost every article currently consists of:
    • Overview of gameplay (Identical between articles. Better just to have the Gameplay section on the series article)
    • Track lists (Would be incorporated into the List of SingStar games. The use of collapsible tables would make the page shorter too)
    • Infobox (Would also be incorporated into the List of SingStar games
    • Some articles have criticism of the track list ('this is not actually R&B', 'this was not released in the 1980s', etc. This information is either trivial and can be deleted, or we could mention something about poor track choices in the Reception section of the series article and reference specific versions there. This would obviously have to include citations from third party sources)
    • The SingStar and SingStar Party articles mention their joint BAFTA award (This could go under Reception in the series article)

Given how easy it would be to incorporate this information elsewhere, it seems redundant to have over 15 stubs with tracklists on separate articles. The SingStar PS3 article would be kept because of the amount of new information it can give.

Although I'm not as keen on having a list page, if it allows the individual articles for all the different PS2 versions to be folded into back into the series article, I think it's definitely a step in the right direction. I guess the question is whether or not we really need the track lists at all. I know that some people would demand that we include them... Personally I'm not convinced. If people want to see the track lists, the entire collections for each language is at www.singstargame.com. Either way, it's going to cause debate. I agree with the need to merge all the individual versions into a single List of article. I also question the need for having all of the track lists, particularly the non-English ones (other language versions should be covered in those respective Wikipedia's, I'd think). While album articles often have track lists, it seems to be frown on for other media, such as TV and movie articles that discuss the soundtrack. Some general prose, properly sourced, that highlights particularly notable songs might would better, as well as the general reception to the game that may/may not include a discussion on the songs included. If people want to read their countries track list, they can go to the official website for their region. I included links at the bottom of List of SingStar titles to make it really easy for people to find the track list of their country. This actually works better than the old system. Before it was a mess of songs added and songs removed, and you had to scroll up and down between the localised track list and the international track list to read them all.
In regards to the box art, Wikipedia has an extensive non-free content policy. Copyright images like box art can only be used "in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)." The old articles didn't have any critical commentary, and the box art should have been deleted from those articles even if they hadn't been merged. --Tntnnbltn (talk) 06:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's all well and good for people with broadband, but the various SingStar sites are so mired in lengthy flash animations that it makes it difficult to access on a 56k modem. That aside, it's still tedious on a faster connection. Having all of the titles with their respective track lists in an easy to access text form is optimal. I agree here. There's no reason why we shouldn't still include the track lists for all the countries rather than just say to editors go to the website for the lists. We should either add those or just restore the separate articles, which I believe can coexist with the master list anyway. The problem here relates to WP:NOT, in particular, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. It is not necessary to include these track list of every single SingStar game released in every single country (1500 songs in the PS2 games alone [1]). Requested move[edit]

I raised a point a couple days ago about moving SingStar to SingStar (PlayStation 2), and moving this article to SingStar. There have been no objections so far, so I have put in a proposal at Wikipedia:Requested moves. SingStar Parties[edit]

Alright, the new article seems to be complete. I've removed some of the content from the releases section on this page because that information was better suited on the new article. While a list of SingStar titles seems useful in its own right, the various releases have varying degrees of notability and sufficient coverage in reliable sources that unless we merge just about everything from those articles, I think there is an advantage in having the separate articles as well, i.e. both. SingStar Seduction[edit]

If you search on google and click on the"first match: SingStar - SingStar Seduction you open a singstar official page where a group of songs included on all PS2 versions appears. Date formats?[edit]

Just curious. Why was the date format changed to the North American format on this article in April 2008? The article started with a UK format and is by UK developers. What was the reason for the change to the North American format? - X201 (talk) 14:44, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Case colours[edit]

I found two copies of SingStar Legends today (in the UK): One in a blue DVD case, one in a white DVD case. As they're both second-hand, I wondered if one of the boxes had been replaced. Looking through Google Images, am I right in thinking the white box is for when they're bundled with microphones, and the blue one for just the game itself?
