NYC and America are full of sinophiles. How else do you explain the popularity of Chinese restaurants, wanton soup, dim sum, etc.? 204.52.215.107 00:58, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That has nothing to do with sinophilia. That is called globalization - it's the same reason why there are thousands of McDonalds and KFCs in mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, etc. Also, sinophilia isn't necessarily negative, whereas many western scholars who show an interest in East Asian/Chinese culture can be considered to be a "sinophile," "japanophile," etc Intranetusa (talk) 16:29, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed is not needed!!!!!![edit]

Why put citation needed? Liking Chinese culture is really normal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.54.68.114 (talk) 05:15, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow[edit]

This vandalism stayed up for over a year. I guess I'm as much to blame as anyone else; I made some lazy edits here in December and didn't notice it in there. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 07:32, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone provide a citation for the statement of Michael Bolton being a sinophile?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.78.32.21 (talk) 11:26, 11 May 2011 (UTC) It is said in a song, but I agree, citation needed... simply because it is in the song does not make it fact — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.228.56.14 (talk) 21:49, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

destabilisation[edit]

interesting to see that half of the people on that list were involved in some kind of revolution or destabilisation of China — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.235.14.70 (talk) 14:19, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

I noticed a number of references using the url to a Google Book link. I though editors might be interested in a tool which takes a link as input and creates a (usually) properly formatted ref.

Wikipedia citation tool for Google Books

I used it to improve two such references.

It really helps creates a much cleaner list of references. I hope you will try it. S Philbrick(Talk) 18:20, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As a suggestion, this article is more of list than anything else, which is helpful, but does not really look in depth at this matter. First thing, a neighbor of other Asian countries around China, most notably Korea, Japan and Vietnam were deeply, deeply influenced by Chinese culture. Which is why I have an issue with the list format. For over 2, 000 years, practically single educated person in Korea and Japan was very strongly influenced by Chinese culture-to list all of the Japanese/Korean Sinophiles would make for an unmanageably long list. Getting back to the main topic, for an example, for the Koreans, China was their ideal, the center of a civilizational and the conquest of China by the Manchus in 1644 caused an existential crisis, as the civilization that for the Koreans was the center of world was now lost to the Manchu "barbarians". The conclusion reached in Korea was that with China lost, it was now the duty of the Koreans to preserve the grandeur of Chinese civilization that the Chinese themselves had failed to uphold, which is why the Koreans mostly cut themselves off from the world for the next couple of hundreds of years. Hence the Hermit Kingdom as the Koreans paid tribute to the Qing emperors of China while trading with China, which was about the limits of their interactions with the outside world. This article talks about none of this. Second, this article should really explain attracts what outsiders to China. Of course, there is not single answer to this question, but at least the subject should be addressed. --A.S. Brown (talk) 06:42, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
