Psychosis[edit]
Shouldn't information regarding skunk cannabis and its detrimental effects on mental health, particularly the high propensity to develop psychotic-spectrum disorders, e.g., schizophrenia, be included within this article?

- This is another, older primary study, by Dr Marta Di Forti. A secondary medical review published in a respected medical journal is still needed. Primary studies need to be confirmed by other primary studies, ideally, by different researchers and then all of them examined by respected researchers in a review published in a respected medical journal. This way much more accurate conclusions can be made. This particular study http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19949195 , might not have even survived peer review as you can see there was a concern that "Sample bias may obscure results." by Lawson EM here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20357313 . The more recent study http://www.thelancet.com/pb/assets/raw/Lancet/pdfs/14TLP0454_Di%20Forti.pdf , was only recently published. If it holds up, it may get a mention in a new review soon. - Gotcha. Thanks for the informative explanation. It's quite frustrating in what is generally acknowledged via anecdotes has not been formally studied sufficiently due to the legalities surrounding cannabis and its use. Well-conducted studies on cannabis and its effects that are also recognized by well-reputed publications are few and far between. That said, while research on cannabis is in its nascent stages, it's increasing dramatically and that's good for all given cannabis' widespread use. Thanks, again. - I think researchers are hesitant to definitively declare cannabis as an independent cause of permanent psychosis because mostly what is established is an association. It is well known that people with mental illness frequently use and abuse all drugs. Similar associations with psychosis are found with alcohol and tobacco use as well. Also, alcohol and cannabis are both know to cause transient, temporary psychosis which wears off with the drug, sometimes this is not made clear in literature and can be misunderstood as to causing permanent psychosis such as schizophrenia. Further complicating the establishment of cannabis as a cause of psychosis is that a component CBD, cannabidiol, has actually been shown to prevent it according to this review: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22716160 . It may be possible that people with a predisposition to developing schizophrenia may have had mild symptoms and found some relief by using some strains of cannabis.
