Slave or free status of ‘slave queens’.[edit]

They are listed as ‘slave queens’ in the article, but when you click through to their individual pages, there is currently no mention of any enslavement? The women are listed as daughter of king so and so, who married into Merovingian family. Where does the idea of these women having slave status come from? I see no evidence. Thank you. I came across this when reading up on the history of slavery in France. Jlynn2303 (talk) 19:14, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jlynn2303: So I've taken a look at the cited sources, and they say that they were indeed slaves. Some of the articles do mention slavery/servitude (Fredegund, Balthild). Some of the others are listed as daughters of foreign noble families but were actually captured by the Merovingians as slaves. The sources cited aren't that helpful because they just list them as slave queens rather than getting into their biography for the most part. You might also want to ask at the Reference Desk where more people will look at your question. Zoozaz1 talk 20:21, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
