Title[edit]

Per WP:MOSTM and WP:Article titles#Standard English and trademarks, I've moved the article. (Should have been in the move box....) Obviously, the old title exists as a redirect. --Izno (talk) 22:23, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Troll attempt[edit]

Have just removed the inappropriate comment that says 'this game is racist' at the beginning of the opening paragraph.

list of gods[edit]

Falls under WP:VGSCOPE criterion #6. Please do not readd them. --Izno (talk) 18:45, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Minotaurs/Phoenixs[edit]

Article does not describe what either of their functions, only that they are team assets that can be destroyed by the enemy. I do not play Smite, so I do not know what they do. From what I can gather, minotaurs are the equivalent of Nexus/Ancients and Phoenixes are like inhibitor/barracks? Can someone with knowledge of this game add the required content to clarify the article. Thanks. Command Conquerer Logs 06:57, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Smite (video game)Smite –Doesn't seem like any other article is titled just "Smite", thus the game is probably the primary usage of the term Prisencolin (talk) 07:03, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose – The video game seems unlikely to have primary long-term significance relative to two rivers and other subjects. The nominator seems to have fallen prey to the common misperception that the title of an article makes a difference in determining what is primary for a term. Quoting WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT, "The fact that an article has a different title is not a factor in determining whether a topic is primary." Also, please note that this is a malformed multi-page move request, since the target name is already occupied. —BarrelProof (talk) 04:59, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Both rivers are less than 40 KM long and judging on the the articles neither seem to have much cultural impact. As for the the alternative name for Dueling scar, I guess this is a topic better brought up at its talk page but given that the dueling scar seems to have a number of different names I'm not sure if smite should redirect there. The Smite video game has over 10 million registered players as of July 2015.[1] As for lasting significance, I'm not sure how intrinsic the term "smite" is to dueling scars, but you do have to consider the immense popularity of the game.--Prisencolin (talk) 07:13, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • User:Prisencolin how many mentions of the 2 rivers in Google Books? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:08, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
        • That, perhaps unfairly, skews it away from Smite, which is a recently released video game that probably more people are aware of in the English world than a pair of rivers... --Izno (talk) 14:36, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose see WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:DISAMBIGUATION. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:12, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - I find it highly unlikely that there is a PTOPIC here at this time. --Izno (talk) 14:36, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

MOBA[edit]

Hi @Malvodion:,

Multiplayer online battle arena games are also known as action real-time strategy. How is Smite more of an action game than other MOBAs? An isometric viewpoint is a third-person viewpoint. For the VG infobox, we do not mention the camera position, so third-person view shouldn't be mentioned there in the first place. Per WP:MOSTM and WP:MOSCAPS, we use Smite, not the stylized version SMITE. --Soetermans. T / C 13:12, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Malvodion:,
Did you see my earlier message? That a game is played in third-person is not part of its genre. What I can tell from your edits, you're interested in video games, might I suggest you take a look at WP:VG/GL? --Soetermans. T / C 13:57, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Those messages never showed up to me until now. If you want to talk to someone directly you usually leave a message in their personal talk page.
I haven't seen anything in the guidelines about details like those not being something that needs to be specified or not. Considering there is a fair amount of people around the world who argue that this game isn't MOBA because of how it is played, I think that this isn't trivial data.--Malvodion (talk) 20:26, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Malvodion: We're discussing Smite, so the talk page actually is the right place for that. You can use {{ping|"username"}} to notify other editors when leaving a message
Anyway, what do you mean, "not being something that needs to be specified or not"? I'm not saying it is trivial to say "third-person", I'm saying it is unnecessary to point out because MOBAs tend to be played from a third-person view. Smite#Gameplay and Multiplayer online battle arena#Gameplay seem similar to me. Which people think that it isn't a MOBA? Is that a WP:RS? If so, how is Smite different? Because from what I gather, the upcoming Battleborn is a MOBA played from a first-person viewpoint, which actually makes it stand out from other MOBAs. --Soetermans. T / C 15:05, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soetermans: Games with an isometric (bird's view/from above) camera with RTS (everything is mostly controlled with your mouse, with the keyboard being used for hotkeys. After making an order, most character actions are automatic.) control and Third person view (from behind/over the shoulders) with WASD + mouse to aim and fire controls play in very different ways. If you haven't played MOBAs before you should check some gameplay videos, that might be more clear than my explanation. The "people think that it isn't a MOBA" is just people in general, usually they say it discredit the game. They aren't wrong: SMITE's gameplay isn't usually the first thing that pops up in most people's minds when thinking of MOBAs. To top it's relevance, the game has been mentioned several times by both the game's community and just people who are trying it for the first time as being a "3D MOBA" ("3D" because it feels like you are in it instead of just looking at it from above).--Malvodion (talk) 14:57, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Malvodion:, thanks for the message. I could've sworn I replied, guess I forgot to save it. I understand what you mean. Are there any reliable sources that describe the third-person view aspect? Seems like it could be mentioned. --Soetermans. T / C 10:32, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Soetermans: I'm not sure what pages/articles could be good sources for it, but you can google "smite 3d moba" and you'll find news articles, forum threads, videos, comments, etc. referring the game to being significantly different than the rest because of it's view/gameplay.--Malvodion (talk) 21:51, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Malvodion: There is a list of video game centric reliable sources, as well as a custom Google search for them, available at WP:VG/RS. That may aid with the sourcing you're looking for. -- ferret (talk) 19:42, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Comprehensive Updates to the "Matchmaking" and "Esports" sections[edit]

I have made updates to the "Matchmaking" and "Esports" sections of the Smite article to enhance their comprehensiveness. The changes include:

  1. In "Matchmaking":
    • Expanded details on Ranked Leagues, including the tier system and Tribute Points (TP).
    • Added specific entry requirements for Ranked Leagues.
    • Explained the matchmaking mechanics more deeply, including the Elo system and draft pick process.
  2. In "Esports":
    • Added information about the transition of the Smite Pro League (SPL) to a franchise model, detailing the impact of this shift and its operational changes.

Please feel free to review these changes and offer any further improvements or feedback.
