Mayor[edit]

The name of the mayor has undergone repeated vandalism in the past few months, and has now been repaired. According to the Pettis County Clerk's office, Jerry Owen was elected mayor of Smithton in 2008. The next mayoral election is scheduled for April 2010. Any edits made to the mayor's name prior to that date should be viewed with skepticism unless a reliable source is cited to explain the premature change. --Mechla (talk) 16:08, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Smithton Outpouring[edit]

Is a section dedicated to a religious experience that is practically unheard of in the town itself (of 532) and not particularly notable really necessary here? --Mirudus (talk) 01:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. I'm a little concerned about the statistics. If the population is 510, how do they manage to live in 2000 households? Not to mention in 212 housing units... I also find 99.9% of households having one or more under 18 year old doubtful - unless they're farming them out to even the load. Peridon (talk) 20:54, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The website of the church that used to be there (they have since moved to Kansas City), documents part of the history of this religious movement, and may explain why people in the town today, may not have heard of it

Another Smithton[edit]

There is another "Smithton, Missouri" that was the original name of the town that became Columbia, Missouri. Founded in 1818, it only retained that name for a couple years before being re-platted slightly East and renamed Columbia.
