Slavery[edit]

An article about a slave plantation that neglects to include any mention of slavery is making a serious historical omission. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 09:49, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Identify available and reliable sources and I'll be glad to add such content to the article. We can only add what such sources provide. —ADavidB 12:58, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your time. The article on Richard Snowden mentions slavery, with several sources. A cursory search shows these:
History of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center: Snowden Hall - "The east side originally had a large barn and old slave quarters, when the land was obtained by the government."
EARLY HISTORY OF PATUXENT WILDLIFE RESEARCH CENTER - "The family were large slave holders and Snowden Hall on a Sunday
morning was the gathering place of more than a hundred slaves to hear the mistress read from the family Bible." Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 13:18, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ADavidB There are numerous articles on plantations in Maryland that neglect any mention of slavery or slaves. A quick glance at a few articles for plantations in other states reveals a similar pattern. The problem seems to be systemic across Wikipedia. An article about a plantation will detail the architecture, the history of the owners, etc., while omitting mention of slavery or the slaves. There are probably hundreds of articles like this, something I have neither the time nor the energy to fix by myself. But I think it's worth addressing and calling attention to it. I've added some information already for a few plantations in Maryland, but there are a lot of articles that need to be reworked. Thanks again for the help on this article. I added two sentences, cited to the sources you provided. —ADavidB 15:37, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
