Content Addition

FOR SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS THIS, THIS SHOULD BE A LITTLE MORE LEGNTHY!<333 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DDavis092 (talkcontribs) 00:51, 7 December 2006.

I added updated content for the History section as well as subheadings and a more-detailed description of the monument's exterior and its notable sculptures.Rosalina523 (talk) 20:59, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
It would be great if someone could add some current, close-up images of the monument's sculptural details to the article.Rosalina523 (talk) 20:59, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Original research

I'd like to pitch in to this article, but can't do so without discussing the similarity between some of the sculpture on the monument and a work created by François Rude for the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I have never seen this connection made before (tho it probably has been discussed somewhere) - making this the kiss-of-death original research. I probably can supply pictures to back this claim but am not going to do so if it's just going to get removed. So, I'm looking fo a second (3rd, 4th and 5th would be good too) opinion. eeeek aka 19:52, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Make sure you can find at least 1 reference for this, it might help if you read through this first. HoosierState 20:18, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me. I am fairly well acquainted with wikipedia's views of original research and frequently choose to use them as guideline and not rules. The rather small pond of American Sculpture Research frequently does not provide the documentation that are needed to fully explain things such as this monument. So I do what I can and am in some cases overruled, or speedily deleted or whatever, but mostly am not. However when folks point the rules at me I typically decide not to contribute. Life is too short and there are too many other things to do where my knowledge and understanding of American sculpture is appreciated. Anyway, thanks for your prompt and direct reply to my query. There's also the fifth pillar Wikipedia:Ignore all rules... In this case, though, I'm not sure what connection you'd draw between the monument in Indianapolis and the Arc de Triomphe, which was built 90 years earlier on a different continent. Mingusboodle (talk) 01:27, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
The connection between the two, from my perspective, has to do with the design of some of the sculpture. Looking at pictures and comparing the two make a compelling (opinion) argument, but "compelling arguments" do not carry much weight here. Carptrash (talk) 02:05, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Title wrong?

I'm not sure why this article is "Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument". This spelling is not used in either the [State's website] or the [NPS' website]. Further, a quick search of my bookshelf returns a published spelling like the one used here in WP. If there is no compelling reason and citation for the possessive nature of this spelling, it should be changed immediately. --Richard McCoy (talk) 17:14, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

the Smithsonian data base calls it the Soldiers and Sailors Monument with an alternate title of Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. Since the article has been like it is for years I'm not sure why "changed immediately" is the way to go - I'd like to get home and check my book shelf too, but a good title for a page is important. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 17:49, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Ha, ha. Well immediately to me, just means soon--and not just something to mull over. Which Smithsonian database? I note in [Save Outdoor Sculpture!] database that elements within the piece don't have the possessive. See here.

This is what I was looking at. [1]. This article here seems to be pretty short of sculptors, but that can be fixed too. Immediately (your time). Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 19:29, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Looks like a rename is in order! —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 01:44, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Governor's Circle

The governor's circle encompassed by the 80 foot street contains 2 acres not 3 acres as described in History section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.165.112.113 (talk) 15:36, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

I tried to find a citation that documents the acreage as 2 instead of 3 acres, but the ones I found said, if anything, 3 acres. If there is another source that supports the Circle's size as a 2-acre lot, you might want to add it to the article's content with an inline reference, and making a range as a 2 to 3-acre plot of land, for example.
