Turtles of Songnisan Park[edit]

These turtles have to be seen to be believed and I want to add details as I can find them. The making of these turtle sculptures must rate as one of the greatest feats by ancient man. How ancient I dont't know as I have no record yet as to what anyone thinks of them in English. The largest one is a full 150 feet long and is built out of a whole hillside. There are also 3 positioned one atop the other leading up the hillside. Details that still survive include fins, eyelids, and rounded connections to the back of the turtle. They are all in various conditions of degeneration. It doesn't look initially to me the monks that founded the temple built them and they must have already been present. Who built them, when, why, how many, how big are all big questions. Pbmaise (talk) 10:12, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
