Anniversary Sonic 2[edit]

Yup, it's in the trailer. It's been revealed that it's being developed by some of the same people who made the mobile ports of Sonic 1/2, so it's probably based on those versions. Sergecross73 msg me 12:18, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Headcannon[edit]

How would we feel about removing Headcannon from the developer field on the infobox? Headcannon confirmed the work they did for Sonic 3 & Knuckles was separate and it seemed like they did not know if it was going to be used in Origins: https://twitter.com/head_cannon/status/1526736101108396033?s=21&t=wUmMkVPbHnXI2I_8ckShMg The rest of Origins was developed internally by Sega. Since Headcannon was porting Sonic 3 & Knuckles “as a separate project from Sega’s Sonic Origins,” should we keep them in the developer field? Since we aren’t listing Christian Whitehead even though the 1/2/CD ports are his versions, I think it would be better to just mention in the main article or the development section that Headcannon did the work for 3&K while leaving them out of the developer field. There is the argument of leaving it because this is the first time 3&K got a Retro Engine port, but since the Twitter thread literally says Origins is a “purely Sega-developed product” I feel it’s better to leave them off, but wanted to ask how others think of this before making any changes.

Edit: Going to remove it, as I think it fits best given that Headcannon had to clarify they didn’t develop Origins. On top of this, Template:Infobox video game lists under the development field to not list developers of individual tasks, which one can argue includes porting/remaking Sonic 3. Sonic 3 prototype tracks[edit]

I'd argue that in the context of this featuring a full Sonic 3 remaster, it's important to note that the new tracks were intended for Sonic 3 in the first place. The VGC article notes this, and Thomley's cited tweet explicitly states they were written before Jackson's involvement. And given Jackson's involvement is the whole reason the tracks are being changed, that provides valuable context to the average reader who might not know the story. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:08, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I won't fight if you both agree it should be mentioned - I'm just not convinced it's totally necessary. The fact that the music was composed before Jackson's music was implemented in Sonic 3 all the way back in 1993 strikes me as being out of this article's scope and not terribly relevant to Origins' development. All I think is relevant to Origins specifically is that Senoue's taking the music featured in the 1997 collection and rearranging it. JOEBRO64 19:51, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Headcannon source[edit]

Origins' replacement tracks allegedly being "new" remixes made by Jun Senoue[edit]

Though stated in press that the Origins renditions of the Michael Jackson Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles tracks were brand new remixes made by Jun Senoue, it has been heavily disputed by fans in that being the case, and suggested rather that they are different prototype versions of the songs.

- The renditions sound less developed and more akin to the Sonic & Knuckles Collection on PC rather than that of the leaked prototype, which is an odd artistic choice. Ice Cap Zone Act 2 is literally identical to that prototype's version whilst Act 1 is slightly less refined and unique by using the same instruments as Act 1, which is odd to hear of supposed new remixes for the tracks. https://tcrf.net/Sonic_Origins/Sonic_3_%26_Knuckles#Music_Changes

- The one entirely new track we know was made for the remaster, the new Super theme, uses Sonic the Hedgehog 4 instruments instead of sounding more authentic to the style of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. It puts into question why he would go out of his way to make that new song sound like that and inaccurate to the game if he allegedly had no issue in making the other songs sound completely authentic. Another weird artistic choice.

- Said Super theme isn't made in the same process as the other "new" tracks, rather the exact same process the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 music was made in. I understand, but Wikipedia only documents what can be verified by reliable sources. Including research from messageboards violates WP:USERG and WP:OR. Unless you find a reliable publication that covers these things (See WP:VG/S for an extensive list sources commonly seen as usuable or not usable) it's not fair game for inclusion on Wikipedia. Hedgehog Engine 2[edit]

This game actually mainly uses Hedgehog Engine 2. Retro Engine does not support CRI Middleware. I've looked at the PC version's files. It is also compatible with HedgeModManager. Gorilli09 (talk) 16:19, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  1. We would need a reliable source that verifies it.
  2. It's not really worth mentioning if it only applies to the game's menu screens. That's just trivia at that point.
