Characters

At present, just about every article on a Soulcalibur character has an {{unencyclopedic}} tag and is listed in Category:Articles which may be unencyclopedic (easiest found via that category). Since I don't see the problem with covering characters from fighting games in Wikipedia, I removed a few of those templates, but was reverted with no further comment. Perhaps someone from the Wikiproject could look into it. >Radiant< 09:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Gameplay Info on Character Pages

Looks like some young kid found out how to use wikipedia. He has decided to grant us his "expert knowledge" on each and every one of the character profile pages. It's pretty good for a laugh, but definitely sub-par and completely out of place for WP (and that's putting it nicely). Anyone want to handle this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.215.10.1 (talk) 22:26, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Soulcalibur

According to various sources (look up any Soulcalibur game on IGN, Namco Bandai's website, or prolly various other sites), the name of the later games is Soulcalibur, with no space (a capitilized "C" is debatable...). Isn't it about time we fixed this error on all the "Soul Calibur" articles? --208.104.217.69 04:00, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

    • I too agree...the official spelling from Namco is one word all caps. Now I have run into this with Wiki and PLAYSTATION 3, and the 'rules' here don't seem to allow for special spellings (though SOMEHOW iPod is deemed ok??!!). Nevertheless is should AT LEAST be made into ONE word Soulcalibur instead of two. Don't know how to elevate the discussion though. KsprayDad 19:15, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure whether the official spelling is "Soulcalibur" or "SOULCALIBUR", because both are used in Namco's press releases.[1], but we should definitely get rid of the space. That was never suppose to exist, I think. SoulSlayer 11:32, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Why don't you guys try looking in the trademark database. No trademarks under Soul Calibur can be found, only Soulcalibur. Here's my source: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=searchss&state=dmp53j.1.1 Type Soulcalibur and you will see a few trademarked names and when you type Soul Calibur you get nothing. Clamticore 16:15, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
I always thought it was "Soul Calibur," But after doing some research, most sources say "Soulcalibur." Even the official movie site's title says "Soulcalibur". It makes sense since the Soulcalibur name is a reference to the Excalibur which isn't written as "Ex Calibur." —TigerK 69 19:58, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Also, as an interesting side-note, I looked up "Soul Blade" at the trademark database and had no results but there is one for "Soulblade" —TigerK 69 01:30, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

PEOPLE. LISTEN UP

Are you aware that for most of the LAST 10 YEARS (aprox.) it was "Soul Calibur" almost everywhere?

2,530,000 google hits for "Soul Calibur" - ONLY 940,000 for "Soulcalibur" (and mostly for III & IV, of course).

Also the very first hit "Soulcalibur" for for www.soulcalibur.com/ page named "Soul Calibur 2 - Home" (it's Namco's official, right?) - and you call this game "Soulcalibur II" NOW? Oh lawd.

And even Google wrote me "Did you mean: "soul calibur II" after I asked for your "soulcalibur II"! Go figure.

Furthermore, Namco calls the sword "Soul Calibur".[2] As of "OMG EXCALIBUR" argument.

You known what? This is just plain retarded. After Sony came with "PLAYSTATION3" all of sudden, Wikipedia continues with "PlayStation 3" - guess why? No, it didn't change PlayStation 2 to "PLAYSTATION2" neither (see the SC2 stupidity).

If you explain me why the SC III & IV is valid while PLAYSTATION3 is not, I'll understand. But "Soulcalibur II" is obviously wrong no matter what (and obviously same for the first one). --HanzoHattori 17:33, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

The only solution is using as I see it is using either "Soul Calibur" constantly per PS3 (with a note about the official name in the new ones, that is apparently SOULCALIBUR not "Soulcalibur") or two names for the different games (but also with a note about the capital letters used since III). And the sword was called "Soul Calibur" (and "Soul Edge") - if this changed recently, should be noted too. --HanzoHattori 17:54, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Google isn't always right, for example when I type "Spider-Man Peter Parker" it says "Did you mean: SpiderMan Peter Parker" when the correct way to write it is "Spider-Man." Most people agree that it is either "Soulcalibur" or "SOULCALIBUR" (which according to WP:CAPS would also be written as "Soulcalibur." Namco isn't as consistant either, some places they write "Soul Calibur," some places "Soulcalibur." In this case, we use sites like IGN.com to get the correct spelling. —TigerK 69 21:44, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

The official name for SC and SCII was SC and SCII - I just showed you "most people agree" (on the Internets) on this and not on S and SII, including Namco (even now!). The CAPSTITLES started only with the third game (just after Sony went "PLAYSTATION"?). --HanzoHattori 07:53, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Also, I just changed the idiotic (you're obsessed with this sudden renaming, but missed it out even after I pointed it out for you!) title of "Soul Calibur: The Movie" (the future? film) into the proper "Soulcalibur (the movie)". It should actually be just Soulcalibur, but I don't have skills leet enough to change the Soul Calibur game back after you messed up (now it occupies the space). --HanzoHattori 08:01, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and ironically

This above (wrongly calling Soul Calibur "Soulcalibur") while you call the Soulcalibur movie... "Soul Calibur: The Movie".

See:[3] (scroll down down to "Soulcalibur | Home" - and also notice "Did you mean: soul calibur" for the extra fun points.)

To sum the SC naming debacle, you screwed up exactly everything. Congratulations! --HanzoHattori 18:01, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Really

Shouldn't the articles be titled "Soul Calibur" (II, III, etc.)? The trademark argument has been debunked above yet no one commented. As for the allcaps spelling, it's a common trend for commercial entities to spell their products that way, but the conventions on Wikipedia is to write in regular English (no allcaps, no TM or (c), etc.). FightingStreet (talk) 11:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Expansion

Is anyone working on the expansion? If so, I suggest an "History" or "Origins" or an "Making of..." or whatever to be added. The creators of it at Namco must have a document or a journal or something for this kind of thing.

Really?! An animated film?

Can you give me the URL of where it said so? Joey368 22:53, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Character articles

Why have some of the characters lost their articles?

  • Charade and Zasalamel have only been main characters in 1 game but so have Necrid, Setsuka, Tira and Chronicles of the Sword characters
  • Cervantes has been in all the games
  • Nightmare has practically been in all of them and is the icon of the series
  • Astaroth has been in 3
  • Cassandra was mentioned in both games before she appeared

Fair use rationale for Image:Soul Calibur - Logo.jpg

Image:Soul Calibur - Logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Character Table

Someone deleted the Soul Calibur Legends portion of the character table, saying it shouldn't be "crammed" with spin-off games. I strongly disagree with this, for these reasons:

1) it can't be crammed when there's only one spin-off game,
2) Legends isn't just a spin-off, it adds to the story of the main games,
3) just because it doesn't have a number on it's name, doesn't make it any less of a Soul-series game,
4) the table gives people a change to quickly check which characters were included in the game and which weren't,
5) Legends features as many characters as the original Soul Edge/Blade (which doesn't belong to the numbered series either),
6) the table is about characters featured in Soul-series games, so why exluce one of the games?
7) It doesn't say anywhere in the table that it should only contain characters from the main series, in fact Lloyd Irving is listed in the cameo characters as well, so why not the rest of the cast?
Enough reasons? SamSandy (talk) 06:55, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

As it's not part of the fighting games, I'd say it shouldn't be crammed in there, but it's also a bad idea to list them seperately. My suggestion would be to move it to the end of the table and perhaps give it a different background colour for easy distinguishing. --ThunderPX (talk) 12:02, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
