History[edit]

This article could use more historical information: Who invented optical sound technology? When, where and how was it developed? I am amazed at how old this tecnology is and yet so ittle is written about it as compared to the phonograph, magnetic tape or digital media. Morganfitzp (talk) 20:13, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Also, some references to early usage, (film titles, etc.). ~Eric F 184.76.225.106 (talk) 20:31, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I created a new article for optical sound. While the sound-on-film article applies to all types of sound film, the optical sound article includes maritime communications, phonograph record production, and musical instruments. Morganfitzp (talk) 00:50, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be a LOT more detail about the various types of sound format, their pros and cons, why variable-area film sound became dominant over variable-density and so on. Without this information this article is very incomplete. Lee M (talk) 23:50, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
