Easter eggs Copyvio[edit]

The Easter Eggs section removed in this revert is a direct copy from the following two pages:

Copyright is retained on this text and therefore should not be used on wikipedia. Jibbles | Talk 09:03, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- I removed my comments here as I was mistaken. Although originally taken from those pages, they have no been reworded to no longer resemble those pages. Copyright should no longer be an issue. Jibbles | Talk 20:46, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it would be as much of an issue, but I do want to stress that original content from the SQ Omnipedia is licensed under a Creative Commons license. The work must be attributed and must be distributed under the same license. I don't know how this interacts with Wikipedia's use of the GFDL, but I would stress caution in any case.

Taste and smell icons[edit]

It's been a while, but weren't taste and smell icons available in at least one KQ game? I can't find anything to substantiate this, but I could only find a screenshot of the KQIV interface. –Dvandersluis 14:20, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sq1 boxart.jpg[edit]

Image:Sq1 boxart.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

copy protection[edit]

The copy protection section needs clarification. Copy protection was different for each platform. Apple II and IIgs did not have the coordinates in the manual but in the game. The copy protection for these two specific platforms was on the disk itself as bad sectors (IIRC). I am not sure of the protection for the PC but what is published as of this writing might be for the PC only. 12.200.149.30 (talk) 19:18, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

I think this should stay at Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter per WP:COMMONNAME. One other possibility would be Space Quest I: The Sarien Encounter per the authors' website. —Torchiest talkedits 02:10, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cover art and title screen of every version of the game includes "Chapter I" in the title: [1], [2] --Mika1h (talk) 13:53, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would agree that WP:COMMONNAME applies here, especially because the "Chapter" suffix was dropped later in the series. It's confusing to readers, but given that the game's proper name is "Space Quest: Chapter I - The Sarien Encounter", it should also be a redirect to "Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter". --Teancum (talk) 15:37, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Rename all. Timrollpickering (talk) 17:15, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– Following discussion at Talk:Space Quest V: The Next Mutation#Requested move and a parallel RM for the King's Quest series, I think it's reasonable to simplify these titles. Such moves would be well within policy, especially WP:CONCISE and WP:SUBTITLE.

As a side note, I don't know why they abruptly abandoned Roman numerals for the sixth game. I wouldn't oppose Space Quest VI for that one, but consistency isn't as important if we're simply representing inconsistency that's already out there. BDD (talk) 21:19, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Suppport, but keep Space Quest 6 as the title for the last game. There were plans for a seventh game called Space Quest VII: The Return to Roman Numerals at one point. —Torchiest talkedits 03:34, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's hilarious! And I thought the King's Quest subtitles were good. --BDD (talk) 19:09, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak oppose, I see the subtitles as prominent parts of the actual titles, and redirects would solve the problem of having to type them all in. But more importantly, consistency should be kept, so either move all articles or don't move any of them. And please do keep the apparently rather inconsistent way of numbering (I through V, but then 6), as that's what the numbering actually was, and it also resulted in plans to make a game just to use Roman numerals again, although the game was never published. JIP | Talk 19:29, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support all per WP:SUBTITLE and the precedent at King's Quest. The subtitles aren't needed for clarity and the names are commonly found in sources without them.--Cúchullain t/c 04:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
