Boycott in 1936??[edit]

I doubt that Spain "boycotted" "the 1936 Summer Olympics in Nazi Germany", which now is stated in the text without any source: As I understand it, the country during the summer of 1936 was in the middle of a fierce civil war and people there had really more serious concerns than sports abroad. Or: Can anyone give serious references supporting the idea that not coming to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Nazi Germany was a politically driven boycott?
