I'm confused about Sinuiju[edit]

Sinuiju Special Administrative Region has it's own page and is listed as a SAR but isn't on here. Should it be added or is it different? IowaBird (talk) 06:27, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I had a conversation with ChatGPT about this. To sum it up, it seems like the Mount Kumgang Tourist Region, Sinuiju Special Administrative Region and Kaesong Industrial Region aren't official administrative regions but rather geographical zones in which the North Korean government has decided to allow certain types of foreign activity. It is not known exactly how the North Korean government decided to implement these zones, and it may have been as simple as issuing a single directive for their establishment; none of the legal workings are publicly known.
Based on this, I'd say there are two paths we could take. The first would be to create a new page called Special Administrative Regions of North Korea which lists these three zones and add Distinguish templates at the top of each. The other is to rename this page to Special cities and administrative regions of North Korea and explain the differences here. At this point I'm not sure which approach is better. I think renaming this page to Special Administrative Regions of North Korea would be the better option since we don't really have much info on Administrative Regions on their own, and it'd help clear up confusion on one page IowaBird (talk) 05:27, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kaesong also is both a Special Administrative Region and Special City, So no clue how to handle it IowaBird (talk) 00:48, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
