Alt.19 West Virginia[edit]

WVDOT labels the southwest extension of the US-19 freeway/expressway to the West Virginia Turnpike north of Beckley as "19 ALT", but AASHTO doesn't recognize it. Include or not? Mapsax (talk) 05:40, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not against it if WVDOT says it is, but we would need an additional source of some sort to confirm this. Looking at Google Maps, I don't see any signage other than "to US 19," so my confidence level is low. Also, we don't know if its just a spur like a connector or it reconnects further south to US 19 or any history of it. If we are going to say its there, we need more data. --WashuOtaku (talk) 17:55, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the need for secondary sources, but this is your classic unsigned highway, and these are cited all over WP with only a primary source, usually the respective highway agency (invoke WP:OTHERSTUFF if you feel the need). I also noticed a "CONN 19" on the same map, so we might as well throw this one in the mix. There really isn't much history; 19 does not have direct access to the freeways in question so WVDOT named the connectors after 19 because it had to give them some kind of designation. My question was referring to whether their lengths made them significant enough to list. Mapsax (talk) 23:58, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Length is no object when listing in my opinion, I listed a really small historic alternate route of US 74 --> US 74A (Leland, North Carolina). So gather what information of it is available and update the page; but please figure out if its an Alternate or Connector route first. ^_^ --WashuOtaku (talk) 00:38, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There was never any doubt. The north one is a connector with the designation "Alternate"/"ALT"; the south one is a connector with the designation "Connector"/"CONN". Mapsax (talk) 00:49, 29 August 2012 (UTC) [Add:] I'll put this on the back burner for now until I see if there are any other little stubby highways like this along the route.
