Declaration of Independence?[edit]

As far as I know, India never "declared" independence from Britain; she was granted independence by the Indian Independence Act 1947. So what is this article about then? -- User:Gaurav —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.186.9.2 (talk) 17:25, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, it could be argued that the if you're looking for the moment when Indians declared (their intention for) full independence from the British Empire, it would be the Purna Swaraj resolution on 1930, wouldn't it? Who is Becca Velez? Wasn't Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru India's first prime minister? What's going on here???

proposed deletion[edit]

This article was proposed for deletion on the basis of there being no such actual Declaration, which does seem to be quite correct.. As reviewing administrator, I considered redirecting it to either Indian Independence Movement or to Indian Independence Act 1947. both of which it overlaps. The material here does not however seem to fully appear there, and it should be integrated into one or the other. For the meantime, I changed the capitalisation to Indian declaration of independence, which at least avoids giving the impression that there was literally such a document.
