Professional sports[edit]

"Professional leagues are the highest level of play in sport, as they consist of the best players around the world in a certain sport."

This is not necessarily true. Some sports are exclusively amateur all the way to the top level of play. Article edited accordingly. --Eamonnca1 (talk) 02:12, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain this better?[edit]

As an American this article seems rather confusing. The idea that there would be some governing body with the power to control the NFL, college football, high school football, rec league football, etc seems distinctly odd at best and insane at worst. This article does a poor job of explaining how these things work and why the sports leagues put up with them. --Khajidha (talk) 14:26, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I’m not sure if the current version of this article makes any more sense for you-for some reason the section on National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) deals exclusively with those from the UK-but for example, there is an NGB for amateur American Football called USA Football that has various duties, as well a FIFA equivalent called the International Federation of American Football that runs world championships among other things. I can’t imagine either have much influence over the NFL, but most sports leagues are not nearly as influential as the NFL. Charwood12 (talk) 14:45, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
