Problems with Tone[edit]

This section:

The Hamilton bid became the only group to meet all the necessary criteria established by the NHL. Here is a list of what the NHL wanted and what Hamilton’s bid had:[17]

* A building (Copps Coliseum, check) * 20 year lease in place (check) * Local owner (Ron Joyce, check) * Owner with deep pockets (Owner of Tim Hortons, check) * Minimum of 10,000 season tickets sold (14,000 sold in 24 hours, check) * Market that would support hockey team (50 mile radius, 5 million people, check) * Corporate support (70 corporate companies committed to purchasing 70 corporate boxes for a minimum of 5 years, check)[17]

Neither Ottawa nor Tampa Bay had a building, local owner, or a market comparable to Hamilton’s. At the time, no other bid came close to Hamilton’s

it reads very much like a fan's argument for why Hamilton should have an NHL team. The tone sounds like someone trying to make an argument (particularly with "checking off" the points of debate). It also neglects the fact that the NHL wanted the expansion fee paid upfront, while the prospective Hamilton ownership group wanted to pay in installments. The other groups were willing to pay the expansion fee upfront. That is the reason that Hamilton was passed over, according to sources I have read.72.89.108.7 01:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Matt[reply]

Association Football[edit]

Are there any football clubs in Hamilton, professional or amateur? Perhaps the article should mention them, or the lack of them. 81.157.42.84 (talk) 12:43, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the question was relating to Association Football (Soccer) rather than CFL. Obviously the Ti-Cats are a major club. Are there any small soccer clubs? Lord Cornwallis (talk) 19:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In answer to the original question there was once a Hamilton Thunder in the Canadian Soccer League, but they have now folded.Lord Cornwallis (talk) 04:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

I have changed the quality rating from 'Start' to 'C' based on content, referencing and citations. However, as of today the article needs copy editing to remove unnecessary capitalization and hyphenization, and improvements to grammar. PKT 21:36, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
