Events section[edit]

Regarding the deletion of content in the events section: The Lane County Visitors Association does not sponsor any of the events that were listed, they are all hosted individually by various groups within the city of Springfield. The Lane county visitors association provided information about these city sponsored activities, and was therefore sited as a resource for this information, as there is not a current site to find information for some of the listed events. The purpose of adding this information is not to financially support the Lane County Visitors Association, but to provide information about annual events that one could participate in, in the city of Springfield. —Preceding unsigned comment added by KimKnees (talkcontribs) 17:10, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for communicating. Here is part of the text of the message I posted on your talk page:
"One of the core policies of Wikipedia is that articles should always be written from a neutral point of view. A contribution you made to Springfield, Oregon appears to carry a non-neutral point of view, and your edit may have been changed or reverted to correct the problem."
Here is the text I removed (note that if you look at the page history and edit summary, you can see that text is never lost and that you can often see the reasoning behind various edits):

Springfield is home to many annual events including Fiesta Latina and Springfield Holiday Parade. The Springfield Holiday parade is known as the "Oldest and Coldest Christmas Parade in Oregon". This parade occurs the first Saturday every December. The Parade is open to everyone and centers its theme on Christmas and the community. [1]

Springfield has a rich history and offers a fascinating mix of activities for those looking for both vintage and modern attractions. Visit the Dorris Ranch Living History Farm and experience the oldest operating hazelnut orchard. Stop by the Springfield Museum in the downtown shopping district, where you'll find the Historic Springfield Interpretive Center and Museum Store.

Springfield's close proximity to the Willamette River, several lakes and reservoirs, and the lush McKenzie River Valley and Cascade Mountains, make it a great gateway to many favorite Oregon activities, including boating, swimming, hiking and more. [2]

A couple of points:
  1. "there is not a current site to find information for some of the listed events" Wikipedia is not here to be a site for finding event information. That does not mean that event information can't be found here, but that is not the project's primary purpose.
  2. The information wasn't necessarily deleted because of the connection with the visitors' association, despite what I note is likely a conflict of interest on your part. It is the tone of the writing that is a problem. See WP:NPOV. The section pretty much reads like a tourism brochure (and though not quite a copyright violation of this page, it reads similarly) for Springfield and Wikipedia is not a tourism brochure. Words like "rich", "fascinating", "lush" and "great" reflect a POV and the 2nd person instructions to "stop by", "visit" and "you'll find" are inappropriate as well.
When I get a few minutes, I'll rewrite the section to show you what a neutrally worded version would look like. Also, be sure to visit the conflict of interest noticeboard I mentioned on your talk page. If you're willing to abide by our policies, we should be able to work things out.
