Utter rubbish[edit]

"Buildings in Australia no longer use the square as a unit of measure" Go to ANY display house or talk to ANY builder to build a house for you - ALL talk ONLY in squares and priced in squared. Calling a roofing square "Imperial" is a misnomer"[edit]

It's somewhat misleading to call a roofing square an Imperial unit, because it is not a unit defined in the Imperial system as adopted in 1824 and subsequently revised.

A square is based on the foot, but not strictly an Imperial foot. It would have been based on an Imperial foot in the times and places when the Imperial foot was in effect, but it would have been based on a U.S. foot in the United States, and since 1958 it would be based on the international foot in all countries that were a party to that convention. All of these standards are based on the English foot, and are nearly identical. But it would be better simply to say the square is based on the foot and link to the "foot" Wikipedia page, rather than to tie the definition of square to specifically to the Imperial variant of the foot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ScribeMonk (talk • contribs) 22:33, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
