Merger of variant spellings[edit]

Bachchan (merged from Talk:Srivastava/Old page)[edit]

I think this is a misinformation. According to Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan's autobiography 'Kya bhuloon-kya yaad karoon', their family name was Rai and not Srivastava.Being a poet, he took bachchan as his pen name and later on his wife and children also took this pen name as their surname. This is not a misinformation. In one of his interviews, Amitabh Bachchan has told the media that his name was infact Srivastava before his father, Mr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, changed it to Bachchan, as that is what his mother used to call him. I think Dr akhoury is misinformed and is f--------.Amitabh Bacchan used to write Amitabh Srivastava when he was working for jenson and Nicholsan in Calcutta. Maharishi is Varma not Shrivastava[edit]

Origin[edit]

User:Siddharthmukund contributed the following, but I have moved it here from the article as it needs clarification and sources.

Shrivastavas are descendants of Shree Shribhanu (Srivastava), who was a son of Mata Nandini (Dakshina). Shree Shribhanu's rashi name was Dharamdwaj. Maharaj Chitraguptji sent Shree Shribhanu to establish a Kingdom in the Shrivaas (Srinagar) region in Kashmir and Kandhar. He was married to Nagaraj Vaasuki’s daughter Devi Padmini and two divine sons named Shree Devdatta and Shree Ghanshyam were born. Shree Devdatta got the rulership over Kashmir and Shree Ganshyam got the rulership over the banks of Sindhu river. They were called Srivastava ‘Khare’ born from second wife Kheri. Two divine sons named Shree Dhanvantari and Shree Sarvagya were born. They were called Srivastava ‘Doosre’. The Srivastavas are divided into 65 main Als.

Similar material was added again in March by an anon, User talk:167.88.201.100. I've labelled it as unreferenced. Oppose. The name spellings are often used interchangeably in India, and well, spelling mistakes do occur and I don't feel there is a lot of difference in spellings of Sri, Shri, Shree, Sree. Swaroop (talk) 17:45, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • My reason for nominating it is that most of the notable examples in the article are spelled that way. Someone has changed the text of the article so that its lead paragraph no longer matches the article name. I WP:BOLDly moved the page Shrivastava → Srivastava despite the lack of consensus above, given repeated edits by other contributors wanting to give priority to the spelling Srivastava rather than Shrivastava.

"Kayasthas are said to be of three sorts (kinds)— (1) the Chitragupta Kayasthas (2) Dhalbhaga Gatri Kshatriya Kayasthas and (3) Kayasthas of the mixed blood. The origin of Chitraguptavanshi Kayasthas is given in the Puranas. He was born from the body of Brahma while he was contemplating how he should know the good and evil acts of living beings. He was a brilliant person with pen and ink in his hands. He was known as Chitragupta and was placed near the God of death. He was appointed to record the good and evil acts of men. He was a Brahmin possessed of supra sensible knowledge. He was a god sharing the offerings at sacrifices. All the Brahmins offer him oblations of rice before taking their meals. He is called Kayastha because of his origin from the body of Brahma. Many descendants of his bearing different Gotras still exist on this earth. From this it will be seen that Kayastha Brahmins of Karhada and Khandesha are the Brahma-Kayasthas.

Recent revert: March '22[edit]

Hey קייאסטה שירומאני, as mentioned in my edit summary, one is a Raj-era source and the other two doesn't even talk about Chitraguptavanshi Kayastha. You need to provide the full quote from the two sources here, which will then be verified as per WP:V. The source (you mentioned Sitush has accepted), is not a WP:RS, please provide the revision history (difference) where Sitush has accepted the same.
