Avbur[edit]

The article claims there is a reference to Avbur in the Oxford Dictionary of Saints - couldn't find one - page ?

The source http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/Viewer.aspx?ref=stowe_ms_944_f029v Stowe MS 944 needs a better reference and an a translation.

Pronunciation[edit]

I don't actually know - local pronunciation says "stall" as in "stall an aircraft" "or market stall", but whether the "ing" is as in "wing" or "win", or whether the "borough" is "bura" or "brugh" is unknown to me - it may not have a fixed way - as local accents probably don't make much distinction on these elements..

I had a quick look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYROgEoQXlo (local community tv type program) - "local man" says "stallingborough" (1min15sec) also woman at ~4min0sec.

Both say "stall" as in Stalin or , ing as in "wing", and borough as in "bura" not "brugh".

I don't know how to do IPA etc, but they were obviously local, with local accents, so what they said is very likely to be 'standard' pronunciation.

If someone else can do the IPA / phonetics please add.Prof.Haddock (talk) 17:01, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
