The title is incorrect[edit]

Standing Buddha is not a proper noun to refer to this status, so the article needs to move to its given name by scholars or curators of the museum. --Appletrees (talk) 12:34, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right Appletrees. Maybe the title should be "Standing Buddha (Tokyo National Museum)", or "Gandhara Standing Buddha (Tokyo National Museum)" (I think it is the only such one from Gandhara, the others being Bodhisattvas or sitting Buddhas, but there are also Chinese standing Buddhas). I see. The museum has lots of statues depicting standing Buddha, so the latter without parenthesis seems to be Okay to me (eg. Gandhara Standing Buddha in Tokyo National Museum). And can you provide references? The article has no reference to be checked out and you can't edit it because of you-know-what reason, so I want to insert citations that you use. --Appletrees (talk) 17:34, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are already a few inline quotations in the article, so a {{reflist}} would be needed for them to appear. My main references for the subject are:

Yes, see the comments above. The TNM has loads of standing Buddhas, & the rest of Tokyo many more. Variants of "Gandhara Standing Buddha (Tokyo National Museum)" have support above, but I think Gandhara needs to be in there somewhere. I moved it 2 1/2 years ago btw. The original title was "Standing Buddha (Tokyo National Museum)". It was moved to the plain title on 27 August 2007. I confess I did not read the section above, only assumed it was about the undisambiguated title. What about Standing Buddha of Gandhara (Tokyo National Museum)? I see btw that the exact current title is what the google arts & culture site, done with the museums, calls it. Probably that's why I picked it. Also, without the "Tokyo", other sites, and many books, referring to a variety of statues. Johnbod (talk) 14:33, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
