Deleting referenced material without replacement material[edit]

An IP claiming to be an employee of this institution had some suggestions regarding the page but was unaware of how to use the talkpage. The IP editor said "its not too hard to see that by my IP address, I work at the very institution the page is dedicated to and there are probably good reasons for the deleted text. Not familiar with what the "talkpage" was - I am guessing the tab named "Discussion" is one in the same...

We don't generally delete referenced material without a replacement. Census data stays there for ten years even when the bureau provides annual "guesses." This report was "in the ballpark" of what the fund is. Not $10,000, not $1 million, not $1 billion, not $10 billion, but "around" $100 billion. There is no other material in the article that objectively indicates the impact of this organization. Erasing it is really not an option.

No reason it can't go into "History" until it has a replacement. It would be better to have a graph or table that shows information over the years, ultimately. Student7 (talk) 14:31, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I got this information originally out of a newspaper. I haven't seen any new article. We don't update "to the minute" when changes are made. Editors may change something with a new and equally good reference. But remember to include it as history. No editor is permanently responsible to update every fact s/he entered in Wikipedia forever! Actually, there is quite a bit of information deleted from other pages. But if you want to keep stale information, so be it. Newspapers don't always report the truth, I can point to hundreds of cases where that is the fact. "Stale" information is better than no information. We keep "stale" census data for ten years. It seems to work okay.
