You've both lost me. We didn't get too many negroes immigrating here (Australia), but thousands came steerage. Immigration has as little to do with it as race: steerage was a common class of cheap ticket in former times. I don't think so, no.

confusing description[edit]

So you describe the configuration of an 18th century ( wooden, sailing ) warship, and then go directly without change of context to a late 19th century ( iron, steamship ) passenger ship. That's highly confusing.
