Anime becomes reality

> The story of Steins;Gate takes place in Akihabara and is about a group of friends who have customized their microwave into a device that can send text messages to the past. <

Weirdly, this has been realized, more or less, in real life as the Economist reports [1]:

"Signalling dissent or unorthodox links to the net, Mar 17th 2011

Creative ideas for circumventing cyber-censorsip even extend to the redesign of apparently innocent domestic equipment. Kenneth Geers, an American naval-intelligence analyst at a NATO cyberwar unit in Tallinn, Estonia, describes a curious microwave oven. Though still able to cook food, its microwaves (essentially, short radiowaves) are modulated to encode information as though it were a normal radio transmitter. Thus, things turn full circle, for the original microwave oven was based on the magnetron from a military radar. From conflict to domesticity to conflict, then, in a mere six decades. Merger proposal

I would like to propose that the content of Steins;Gate (anime) be merged into Steins;Gate orioer. The information relating to the anime's staff and music can be added into the current article (possibly by just adding it to the "Adaptations" section or maybe split it off more concisely with "Manga", "Anime", and such). The list of episodes could be in a List of Steins;Gate episodes article. --生け 21:23, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

There will be plenty of new information for the anime article as the series develops and reviews are published. Also, including the anime content will require major structural changes to Steins;Gate which, along with the consent updates, will jeopardize Steins;Gate's "Good Article" status. When the topic was first brought up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga/Archive 48#Spring 2011 anime premiers there was on objections for establishing separate articles. —Farix (t | c) 00:26, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
I say the merge should be halted until further notice, I will do my best to fill the info on the missing page along with help from other contributors of wikipedia. --User:Dowa2bp (talk) 00:08, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
hold the merge for now until we see if people get dedicated & skilled enough to make a sustainable stand alone article for the anime adaptation. --KrebMarkt (talk) 19:16, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Well, I've gone and made a merge. The only unique information you can gleam from the anime article are the episode summaries, which can more or less be represented in its own List of Steins;Gate episodes articles once enough episodes have been released. I've also done a little reformatting of the 'Adaptations' section into an 'Other Media' section to better emphasise the manga, etc. (the manga of which I've also added infoboxes for).Wonchop (talk) 20:28, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Future Gadgets

Names of future gadgets (and brief descriptions of them) are needed to be inserted here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.202.254.4 (talk) 07:52, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Story

Suggest to leave at anime stop point until viable citations are obtained. Translated text is far from conclusive proofing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.40.60.246 (talk) 18:29, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Novelization

The article about the novelization version "Enkan Rensa no Uroboros" is needed, since it is official "altered version" of Steins;Gate story and Onshū no Buraunian Mōshon is based on this version, not anime nor the game.114.48.143.215 (talk) 23:39, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Kurisu Makise/Chris Makise

I've watched the anime series being aired in Japan and I couldn't help but feel that Kurisu Makise's name could also be read as Chris Makise. Aside from the fact that she is said to be from America, there are several Christina puns in the show. Not also to mention that the original Japanese character profile page online has "Chris" in the url.

Would it completely blow your mind if I said 'Makise' could be read as 'Max'? Meaning her name would be 'Chris Max'. 94.193.202.208 (talk) 14:09, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Well, I think Japanese conventions would normally have Max spoken as 'Makkusu'. The reason I brought up the whole 'Kurisu/Chris' thing came from the main character always calling her 'Christina' and that the show's Japanese website had 'Chris' in the url for her character profile. But after just a simple trip to Google you can see that people are using both. And in my opinion, neither is particularly wrong since 'Chris' isn't something that can be said in the native Japanese language. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.40.188.59 (talk) 20:08, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
It's a Japanese name with kanji, Kurisu Makise (牧瀬紅莉栖, Makise Kurisu), and the romanization of her name can be found in the visual novel's opening sequence, so I guess it's safe to say Kurisu is the correct romanization. -- クラウド668 00:29, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Post-anime cleanup

I am wondering if anyone, in particular Ike-bana for being the major contributor of this article, is interested in performing a cleanup now that the anime's broadcast is over and interest in the series seems to have died out a little. The article seems to have swayed from GA quality for a while since the anime's broadcast had begun, and parts of the article, in particular the Other media and Main characters sections, don't seem to conform to usual GA quality standards and WP:MOS anymore, and I am not even sure if the See also section is needed. -- クラウド668 00:49, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

For the characters' section, we could theoretically be draconian about it and just change it back to when the article originally passed the GA review. There's a lot of unnecessary information there at the moment. I suppose if someone really wanted to elaborate on things we could accommodate with a a List of characters... article. The Sequels section is completely unsourced and the Other Media section, as you say, needs an editing pass. --生け 00:57, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
Reverting the section actually may not be that bad of an idea, but I think some of the information can be salvaged into the prose paragraphs, such as maybe a line mentioning the Future Gadget Laboratory considering most main characters in the story are members and another sentence or two with regards to Tennōji. I am not really sure if a List of characters is really needed as of now, but if there's a List of To Heart series characters, I suppose one can be created when Steins;Gate 8bit and Robotics;Notes come out, which may make the individual games' relationship a little more apparent. The sequels section can probably be moved to under Other media, but I had it moved to Development since a couple other articles have it that way, and we can then copyedit and add references to the Other media section as a whole. I am also a little worried about the Drama CDs section, because of the little information we can throw in there. Do you think it will be a good idea to merge that with the Music section to create an Audio CDs section (similar to this)? -- クラウド668 01:15, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Character list split and Steins;Gate clean up

With the release of Robotics;Notes and its inclusion of Steins;Gate characters, I've been thinking of splitting the characters sections of Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate, and Robotics;Notes into a separate list called List of Science Adventure series characters, and subsequently giving each article a character section written as prose. This might also be a good time to get Steins;Gate's article cleaned up and back to GA shape. If anyone objects or would like to help, please leave a note. I'll start working on this in a few days. -- クラウド668 17:52, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Not particularly, since, aside from the odd cameo, most of the characters are limited to their own self-contained series. Wonchop (talk) 01:56, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Geez, it's been such a long time since I proposed this. It doesn't necessarily have to all be in the same list (although I do think it should, just to facilitate the loose connections and to avoid repeats), and each article can get its own character list. However, I do think that the character lists should be split from the articles regardless if they are lumped together, just to give each article a proper character section written in prose (I've been slowly working on the ones for Chaos;Head and Robotics;Notes on my sandbox). -- クラウド668 02:27, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
It would seem a bit excessive to have one for each game, since they're don't seem large enough to warrant individual articles. At a stretch, Steins;Gate could possibly have one, taking into account its various spin-off manga and such. At a stretch, mind. Going all out on specific characters details has tended to be more of a Wikia thing. Wonchop (talk) 01:10, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

I for one, feel that this would be a rather good idea. I do, however, believe that the 'Characters' sections should still exist within their respective articles. Gatenosix (talk) 18:51, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

If you still wish to do this then maybe you ought to re-instate the split tag on this article. I was about to remove them from the other articles on that basis. Op47 (talk) 00:45, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Eh, I actually was unaware that the tag was removed from the article (I only keep track of this article via my watchlist). As it seems, an IP removed the tag several days after I had tagged the section with a split proposal. That would explain why nobody cared in the few months since I proposed the split. I'll tag it again and seek more input. Thanks. -- クラウド668 09:21, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
The characters do not have to be on a combined list unless the same core group is used in all the productions, and so far I only see side characters such as Dash and some other girl getting recurring visits, and that could be like Cid in the Final Fantasy series where they feel like they need to cameo them in every series. I would consider splitting off the individual character if there is a notable evolution of character design over the different products. I just looked at Cid's page and it's under Character design of Final Fantasy so when there are enough of those recurring ones you can make the combined list. AngusWOOF (talk) 17:59, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
As AngusWOOF said, there is really no point if they are just cameos. If the characters had more of a presence in the story, then it would warrant a split.--iGeMiNix 18:09, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Not all of the characters' appearances are cameos. Takumi from Chaos;Head is a prominent character in Steins;Gate 8-bit (whatever that was retitled as), and Nae from Steins;Gate (without spoiling much) has her own ending in Robotics;Notes and can somewhat be considered a heroine. The main reason I would like to split the sections off (either into individual lists or a combined one as proposed) is because of this overlap (previous characters serving prominent roles in later games), that most people just keep on tossing the cameo appearances into the current lists anyway, and that all three articles really deserve character sections written in prose. -- クラウド668 18:24, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Another example of this is List of Fate/stay night characters and List of Fate/Zero characters. In those two lists, Kiritsugu Emiya is a supporting character in Fate/stay night but a main character in Fate/Zero. He has descriptions in each section to suit the specific details of the product, and some minor crossover links. Saber, on the other hand, is a main character in both series and has enough write up to have her own article: Saber_(Fate/stay_night). AngusWOOF (talk) 19:57, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
There's also List of characters in the Metal Gear series, but let's not go into the WP:OTHERSTUFF. How about splitting them into individual lists, with the current sections replaced by prose versions? -- クラウド668 21:56, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
I see this matter has yet be resolved? Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea for all the Characters from Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes to be listed and described in one article and simply have the redirect links available in the parent articles. However, with the risk of not reading this lengthy discussion, has anyone even taken responsibly for doing anything about this? It is already February 2013. I know Wikipedia isn't going anywhere, but postponing these things will mean they are forgotten and then some poor soul will start this discussion anew with probably similar results. Therefore this discussion has gone on long enough.. KirtZJ 01:20, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

To tell you the truth, I think it should stay how it is set up. If not, it might confuse some people who haven't seen the article yet.–Miguemely (talk) 20:39, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

I agree, this has been allowed long enough to form a concensus. Op47 (talk) 13:51, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Image

What is the purpose of this image in the article? There is no mention of it in the article so it is not illustrating anything. All images should serve a purpose in supporting the text regardless of whether they are free use or fair use. If the image is decorative, then it should be removed. —Farix (t | c) 18:32, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Then you should take a look at the various history articles where pictures of artifacts are being shown with no relation to the text except that they are both describing the same period in time. There's nothing wrong with that, and other than being decoration, it provides more context to the topic. For the time machine picture, the fact that this much effort was spent on a promotion/imitation serves as a gauge to the subject's reception, and also illustrates an event in-game, and the Radio Kaikan where much of the important scenes happened. _dk (talk) 23:36, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Radio Kaikan is mentioned in the article, under Setting and under Story. The image is under Reception and thus it does illustrate part of the promotion they made of it, giving it was a real location heavily used in the game. pmt7ar (talk) 23:57, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Too low resolution - fair use paranoia

The visual novel screenshot's resolution is low enough to make it mostly unreadable. If a few full-resolution screenshots from a game were not fair use, then fair use wouldn't be very fair nor useful. But in fact, low resolution is not a requirement for fair use - it is just one of many factors that could be considered. If the picture were only borderline fair use to begin with, low resolution could make it safe.

But the use of this image in the article is already perfectly valid fair use due to being just a single scene our of many in the game, due to not adversely affecting the commercial value of the game (in fact, it increases it), due to being noncommercial itself, and due to being used to comment on the game.

The text equivalent of this would be to remove every other character in a one-sentance text quote for fear of not being fair use enough. This isn't just a problem with this image, it is a widespread problem on wikipedia. But it was especially aggravating here.

I hope the uploader of the image will see sense and upload a higher-resolution replacement. Amaurea (talk) 01:44, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Misgendering of Ruka Urushibara

As Ruka Urushibara is clearly a trans girl, she should be referred to using female pronouns. I have corrected the section to use non-offensive language. Glassemma (talk) 21:36, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, but you're wrong. The visual novel, even JAST USA's official translation, refers to Ruka as a "he." And calling her transgender is only your opinion. Unless you have a reliable source from 5pb stating otherwise, Ruka is officially called a male. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TopHatProfessor1014 (talkcontribs) 21:57, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Shouldn't there be a separate page for 0 since it's a separate game and an official sequel, as opposed to a fan disc like the others? There's a enough info about it to warrant one. 137.159.152.67 (talk) 06:12, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
