Pictures[edit]

I have added a few pictures, and put the singles and albums in tables. I hope the information is correct, as i tracked it down from various Steps fan sites.Peterwill 13:45, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Their label will be thrilled to learn I never heard of them. I did wonder where to find a Canadian band, The 39 Steps, but all I got was Gov-Gen Buchan's novel... Trekphiler 06:09, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Buzz never made the Australian Top 50, let alone the Top 10. That chart position needs to be rechecked.

H Sexuality[edit]

"H has also recently anounced that he is gay. This came as a surprise to fans, however, H had already informed fellow, former band members and his family at the age of 21."

H's sexuality was a matter of discussion whilst he was in the band. I disagree that the recent news is surprising. Needs a source and short rewrite. --ScMeGr 20:56, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awful Article[edit]

What a poor article, full of critisism and niff-naff. I hope that someone can rewrite the whole lot in to a sensible article highlighting the success of the group through very popular music and showmenship/showwomenship. In fact what on earth has Big Brother 2007 got to do with Steps as a group? I think I will remove it as it is completely irrelevent.Sidney Bung 19:42, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

what about the charts? the UK section lists them as having had 12 number ones lol which is not true, and besides, negated by the rest of the article. Dollvalley 14:07, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Nearly every sentence is just random opinion. [citation needed] The usual course of action seems to be to request a citation for every sentence in the article. [citation needed] I think that is often rather excessive, but this article doesn't seem all that reliable to me. In particular, statements such as "heavily criticised by their own fans" likely are not true,[citation needed] especially in the frequency at which they occur in this article, as anyone who dislikes so much of what a group does isn't likely to be a fan of that group. [citation needed] The information in the article generally doesn't feel trustworthy. [citation needed] -- The one and only Pj 01:23, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

one thing that would quickly make the article better would be to include a list of Steps members in the first paragraph and have them linked to their pages. I unfortunately, am not such a big fan to know who they all were, which is why i'd need all those links for the page to be at all useful. 86.164.56.6 (talk) 23:11, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article Title[edit]

Why is the title of this article "STEPS" instead of "Steps?" Aside from the fact that the English language doesn't capitalize things like that unless they are acronyms,[citation needed] the rest of the article uses "Steps" rather than "STEPS" and I've never seen anything aside from this article to suggest that the proper capitalization is "STEPS." -- The one and only Pj 01:23, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The disambiguation should be (band) and not (group) too.. - ǀ Mikay ǀ 16:32, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discography on a Separate Page[edit]

Why is the discography of Steps on a seperate page? I can understand Steps being worthy of an encyclopedia entry, and I can understand their discography being included in that entry, but I cannot see the discography of Steps (or most artists) being particularly worthy its own encyclopedia entry. If it is a seperate page at all, I would expect it to be "Steps/Discography" instead of "STEPS discography." -- The one and only Pj 01:23, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia doesn't support subpages in the main article namespace. Though you can create an article with that name, we shouldn't, because it implies a hierarchical naming structure, and as such is contrary to the house style.
Moreover, it seems to have become more or less house style to have separate discography pages, probably so that the detail in some of them doesn't clutter up the artist's main article. -- Smjg 14:59, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article[edit]

Please do not change British spellings to American spellings... Guess which country the band are from? Guess which spellings we are going to use? No American spellings. And, also, no double spacing after sentences please! I keep having to do change them. Don't you agree that the gap in between sentences is just too big? Like these? It's like wasted room. And no POV, please. I removed a whole bunch of that crap; "shocking", "actually", "carefully", "considerable achievement", "the mastermind behind the group" etc. Ugh... ScarianTalk 12:44, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you can see the difference between single and double spaces while viewing the article normally, then it's due to a bug in your browser. Every browser I've used follows this particular HTML standard by collapsing multiple spaces into a single space. As such, most of us cannot see any difference, and so see it as perfectly reasonable to type whatever number of spaces between sentences they're naturally accustomed to. -- Smjg 14:45, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures Required[edit]

Well actuality, I added photos to the page, many to be honest, however they were all removed and the reason given as 'undiscussed addition of images'. This was over a year ago I think. When I was redoing the page. First I add them, then they're taken, now they want to be added again? Peterwill 20:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Were the images free, Peter? I think that might be the request? The JPStalk to me 21:29, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They were covers of Band Albums and singles - therefore in the public domain... No? Peterwill 11:32, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No. Copyright and non-free. a_man_alone (talk) 16:09, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've requested semi-protection for this page. Vandalism isn't anything as bad as on some pages, but it's still annoying, given tehir sudden return to the media spotlight. a_man_alone (talk) 16:48, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steps to the stars winner - Joss Stone??[edit]

Just saw that the article said that the winner of the first series of Steps to the Stars was a young Joss Stone - this is complete rubbish. I actually recorded the series when it aired and was watching it again last night - the girl's name was Jenny-Lynn Smith and she looks absolutely nothing like Joss Stone. I don't know who wrote that unfounded claim in but I'm editing it now. :) KoopaCooper (talk) 19:23, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Years Active[edit]

So there has been some edit warring regarding the definition of the Years Active in the infobox. After reading the explanation of this on Template:Infobox musical artist it seems clear to me that this just refers to when they are active as a group not if they had split up. So i think the page should show '2011-2013 & 2017-present'. Just like it does on One Direction, for example. Any thoughts on this, otherwise i will revert to this and place a hidden note saying to discuss before changing in future.

Cheers,

AussieWikiDan (talk) 04:41, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with this, as defined here. However it does of course leave it to interpretation what counts as "active". What level of activity counts as active? I would suggest it means the members working together in some capacity, with at least a year leeway, and accounting for other projects members may be involved in. But it may depend on band statements or past history. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 10:41, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is true although I think in their case they didn't do any group projects. I think a small social media presence or release of a compilation by the record company wouldn't count. AussieWikiDan (talk) 16:47, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
