Official war artists?[edit]

The bbc have described him as 'official war artists' for the iraq war. What does this mean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.152.233.214 (talk) 10:56, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is simply not true[edit]

His 2008 film Hunger, about the last six weeks of the life of Provisional Irish Republican Army hunger striker Bobby Sands...

I've seen the film, and it is about the years he spent in circus, among his fellow political prisoners, the guards, the society, so this needs to be rewritten. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.60.226.59 (talk) 21:09, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Circular source[edit]

This piece uses almost the exact same words as our article, but was published long after they were added here. It also plagiarizes our Sam Taylor-Wood article. Not adequate. 24.224.195.28 (talk) 20:34, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That is a common occurrence that happens with many wikipedia articles - they are often cloned in whole or in part by other sites...Modernist (talk) 20:38, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

His name[edit]

Is Steve McQueen his real name or an artist name? Seems to me that it is a bit awkward name to use in the film industry considering that Steve McQueen is much more famous. SpeakFree (talk)(contribs) 21:39, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently it is his legal name, though some clarification on why he chose to keep it as "Steve McQueen" would be interesting in this article. Even some reference to the fact that his legal name is Steve McQueen and not Steven or Stephen. 96.48.98.170 (talk) 21:26, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I like it, keeps both people alive in people's imaginations, it's probably more detrimental to the living guy as Steve McQueen as an actor has such a high profile and his impact on people was phenomenal, Papillon, Cool Hand Luke astounding thought provoking films. These two guys are in the exact same tradition I imagine the director was named after the actor, and he's doing a great job of honouring the actor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.204.105.188 (talk) 15:08, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Different disambiguation term?[edit]

It seems that Steve McQueen is becoming more known as a filmmaker, so I am wondering if we should update the article title so it uses "(filmmaker)" rather than "(artist)". We could also modify the lead sentence slightly to switch the emphasis. I think that for readers to see "(filmmaker)" in either search engine results or in Wikipedia's drop-down list of suggestions would be more helpful than "(artist)", which may not give an accurate impression to readers. What do others think? Erik (talk | contribs) 17:07, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There was a conversation that might have been while you were on hiatus, but I can't for the life of me remember where right now, where we discouraged using the term filmmaker. Among the reasons were that filmmaker is a generic term that can refer to any number of people working on a film and even those that "make" the film stock. If you take a look at our article for Filmmaking you will see just how wide ranging the number of jobs covered by the term is. I note that as this SM has moved to full length feature films he directing and writing. I would lean towards using "director" or "film director" as the descriptor. Although we don't have DAB pages for them lots of directors - Woody Allen, Scorsese, the Coen brothers - also write but I think we would use "director" or "film director" as their descriptor if the needed one. Now I am not dead set against it and if others are okay with your suggestion that is fine with me. I thought I would post this as food for thought. MarnetteD | Talk 20:45, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've always seen "filmmaker" as someone who is involved with film production on a high level, like as a director, writer, and/or producer. It seems like we can go ahead and identify Steve McQueen as "film director", though, since sources are calling him that (even though he's written his films too). I'll let the discussion stand a bit longer and then try to go ahead with the move. Erik (talk | contribs) 17:23, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've never liked "filmmaker" as a disambig term. Either Steve McQueen (director) or Steve McQueen (no, not THAT Steve McQueen) is fine with me... Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:50, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yowzaa. Love that second choice. Is there some way it can be immortalized at WP:BJAODN? Thanks for the smile Lugnuts. MarnetteD | Talk 15:26, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

'Issues of race'[edit]

"[I]ssues of race, he has said, do not take priority in his work." When did he say that? I assume the statement needs to be qualified now that he has directed a study of slavery in the United States. Notreallydavid (talk) 03:56, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Running Thunder[edit]

I am pretty sure it is Running Thunder, not Rolling Thunder, BBC got it wrong. See http://stevemcqueen.schaulager.org/smq/en/exhibition/running-thunder-2007.html How best correct this? 82.181.211.112 (talk) 18:02, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

Shouldn't there be a disambiguation link on the top of this article? I'm just an anonymous IP address so I figure someone more experienced should do it. 63.97.96.131 (talk) 18:16, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
