Citations[edit]

I have questions about the comments from Wikipedia on this article I composed about Steven Long. The comments request submission of third party citations as references. With regard to journalists this would appear to be a problem. They are usually writing articles about other people instead of having them written about themselves. In Long's case, he does have a brief bio on the web site of his book publisher, St Martin's Press. But that, too, would seem to present a problem since it was produced from Long's own web site. I have reviewed the Wikipedia articles of several other journalists and honestly find that they seem to have a similar problem, even if comments haven't been made about adding third party references. Do you feel addition of the St Martin's Press reference would be sufficient in Long's case? You don't seem to be questioning the notability of the article--only the lack of third party references. I have considered composing some additional articles about Texas journalists, many of them noteworthy enough to be included in Wikipedia. But this would appear to be a hurdle barring production of any more.Gtaylor713 (talk) 21:37, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there are questions of notability, and the need for WP:RS from independent sources must be satisfied. See WP:CREATIVE and WP:PRIMARY.
In addition, please do not use promotional material and/or shop sites as sources. They fail WP:RS and are considered WP:SPAM. Toddst1 (talk) 15:33, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
