Cleanup required[edit]

This article currently fails to follow accepted layout standards and needs a rewrite (it appears to be quotations). Additionally, the author has attempted to use a non-standard footnote layout. Relevant guidelines are WP:FN and WP:MOS. Adrian M. H. 19:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In response to work by User:AnThRaX Ru: Footnotes are OK now (though a bit more detail is useful: see the layouts at WP:CITET). A little bit more cleanup and formatting could be done, including fewer separate sections, which I'll leave to anyone with knowledge of the subject. Adrian M. H. 15:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it wikified? Still needs some cleaning?[edit]

Hi,

I am trying to wikify this page. How to do it? Is it good now?

Thank you

The page is now sufficiently Wikified. I'll remove the tag. It could still use some more internal links. (Ex: mucosal, fundic, antrum and other (unfamiliar) words in the article.) Condense and simplify it as much as possible. Leena (talk) 19:16, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stress causes Ulcer - A Myth[edit]

Apologies if I am writing this in the wrong place - I've never edited, let alone disagreed with a wikipedia article before - so today's my first.

I cannot believe that this article is not only quotes articles more than 10 years out of date, but it fails to even acknowledge more recently discoveries that were made (and received a Nobel Prize for) in 2005. Yes, 8 years ago they proved that it's a myth that ulcers are caused by stressed.

If you do a simple Google "ulcers stress myth", you'll find there are thousands of pages that point to this and it seems that Wikipedia is the ONLY source that is still beating the 1980's drum.

Even the first line of the article cannot be backed up in any way, shape or form, yet dozens of people have come along over the years and made spelling and grammatical corrections - when in essence the entire page is a sham.

In a nutshell this explains it http://tobewell.areavoices.com/2010/11/19/myth-busters-stress-and-stomach-ulcers/

And why was this perfectly acceptable source - yes, the NOBEL PRIZE, not even mentioned? http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/2005/press.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.210.168.208 (talk) 02:11, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SECOND THIS: Stress causes Ulcer - A Myth[edit]

This whole page would likely benefit the public much if it were deleted. "Stress Ulcers" are found in a tiny segment of the population, specifically some intensive care patients, and little in the writing focuses on this. Additionally, there is this line: "Ulcers are commonly caused by stress, alcohol, and spicy foods" which has no basis in science. I vote delete this and let the pages for Cushing's and Curling's Ulcers stand by themselves in this area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nws103 (talkcontribs) 00:45, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is an ICU issue. An significant one at that. Removed the wrong line you pointed out. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 02:18, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stress Ulcers is a myth[edit]

This whole section is outdated and should be deleted or completely reworked to modern medicine and science.

Prior to the time H. Pylori was discovered by Barry Marshall and Robin Warren, stress and lifestyle were considered the major causes of peptic ulcer disease. It is now firmly established that Helicobacter pylori causes more than 90% of duodenal ulcers and up to 80% of gastric ulcers. Marshall and Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2005 for proving the link between Helicobacter pylori infection and subsequent gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. Since 2005, this link has been established through studies of human volunteers, antibiotic treatment studies and epidemiological studies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.10.86.58 (talk) 00:33, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not copy and paste from sources. This is a specific condition separate from your usual gastric ulcers. It is an ICU thing mostly. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 02:12, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
These are not ulcers due to the lay term "stress" --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 02:13, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
